Title: Some progress pics! New pics added
Post by: Fastbrit on July 16, 2008, 23:37:49 pm
Five speed is in. Engine is in. Just making new oil lines as necessary to accommodate new oil cooler.
Still waiting on adjuster screw for rockers – ordered but not delivered... Once they're here I can think about firing it up at last!

It will be worth it in the end. I fitted a 5 speed last month drove to Chimay the wife raced the car and drove back to Scotland no worries.

The box is so close that all you want to do is get into 5th. Jim Kaforski built the box and told me to solid mount it to get positive gear changes.

Making progress. Fuchs centre caps fit the bore of the JG Torkers just fine, but at the front, the grease caps are 3mm too fat, even when beaten back with a hammer (subtle Cal Look mod). Choices are a thin adaptor/spacer between cap and wheel or (to laugh in the face of people with narrowed beams...) run some 3mm spacers. I like that idea for the sheer perversity of it. Mwahahahahaha!
Oh, and the rusty wheels studs are a consequence of living here in Cornwall. Everything rusts – even plastic.

Tiger sure did  nice job of my muffler – polished muffler and brushed stainless pipework, just to be different...

Relocated MSD coil to make space for the CSP IDA linkage. Not sure how I'll get on with the linkage but I like its simplicity.

Completed oil lines – just need some heat wrap. Now to tackle rear tin with that big old header... ???

Car look great, Keith. Wire wheel the wheel studs, primer, then paint 'em silver. Would that help slow down the rust process?

But I'd be wary about running that plastic on the muffler... won't that melt?

What made you decide to go with a regular Dist. vs. a magneto?

The car already had an MSD and two-step. That may change in the future!

I disagree with Mark about the plastic. I think it will be fine. Go ahead and run it.

Oh, okay. So, do you think the plastic on the muffler will survive... even though plastic rusts, over there? I'd be concerned.

If the plastics been properly treated, yes.

So has that glass gone in yet dude  ??? and I say run the spacers - get those front wheels out where they should be FILLING the fenders  ;) :)

Nah, probably not gonna use it after all - a little bit too dark. Bought new rear stock quarter glass from Heritage instead! The inset of the wheels is such that I could run 3mm spacers at the front and the rims would still be well within the fenders. I like that idea the more I think about it! Narrow is for numpties! :D

Cool well I will take first refusal if you come to sell it  - I have an idea  ;) :)

Latest news! Got the motor fired up last night and it sounds great! Only one oil leak.... from an oil line I'd forgotten to tighten up ( ::)). Now the pre-MOT list consists of bleeding brakes, adjusting clutch/handbrake cables, adjust one front wheel bearing and add some exhaust wrap. I think (but I may be wrong!) that this is all I need to do to get it MOT'd and then registered. Plenty of other (minor) sorting to do, such as making cover for gearbox cut-out under rear seat... and then try to get the five-speed to be just that! Should all be done in time to put the car away for winter...  ;D

Thanks to Matt at Air Kraft for the workshop space and cups of tea/coffee! ;)

PS - gone back to running the CB Performance cross-bar linkage - the CSP one doesn't appear to work on an Autolinea case as the location of the mounting bolt moves the linkage too close to the fanshroud causing the central pivot to jam - but if I slot the mounting hole to move it away, the left-hand linkage rod fouls the MSD distributor. Bummer. ???

Fair's fair Keith  ;) You could always try and run the 1/8th in reverse  Russell not forgetting the burn out in that same gear  ;) :o
