Title: What lug nuts on your original BRMs?
Post by: erikaa on July 22, 2008, 00:00:42 am
Hi. Im in the process of making inserts and studs for my BRMs and was wondering what kind of lug nuts you are using. The hardware that I am copying (Thanks Rune) - have steel nuts, but I have also been recommended these light alloy nuts http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Porsche-911-964-Wheel-Lugnuts-OEM-20-lug-nuts-ALLOY_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247QQcategoryZ33749QQihZ016QQitemZ260211181532QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V

Experience, a link to ebay, or similar would be helpful - Thank you!

Some measurements to those who are interested

The Porsche Lug nuts are very close to the look of the Original BRM lugnut except for the big Base What I have Done in the past is buy an aftermarket set of STEEL Alloy Lugnuts And Machine the big end off and cut a new taper on the lugnut and rechrome its alot easier then machining a whole lugnut But do not use the alloy aluminum lug nuts if you do you will lose your wheels while driving, on the aluminum lugs once you cut the big end down they are to thin and will crack if you use the lugs the way they are they will work but they will stick out to far  and will look like you have a double spacer

Thanks for the info.
If anyone has a link to a lugnut that will look like the original with the modification - post it.

By the way - the insert pictured above is a little bit to deep I have been told. IŽll check it on my wheels and update the measurment.

Original BRM Spacers are 3 MM longer then the 8 Spoke Spacers the long spacer is what the wheel should take unless someone has respotfaced the wheels I would make them a hair shorter anyway that way you know they are not bottoming out before the wheel is tight
