Title: my '72 becoming more Callook...
Post by: wolfswest on July 22, 2008, 19:14:46 pm
Okay,

I've started some topics recently about some questions that I had.  I will post some progress pictures here so you can follow my actions.  It's not a big resto project, just updating the car to a more proper Callook...

First pictures:  the ritual has begun...   I've removed the chrome strips in the windowrubbers.  This winter I will install real chromeless rubbers but this is just a start.  I know I need to clean my car but first things first...  ;D

second thing I want to change are the rear lights.  Now I have the us type rear light but I want to change them to the europe oem look lights.  Here are two pictures so you can see the difference...  Note!  the us lights are real hella lights, the eudm lights are fake ones, it's just to see the look, I'm looking for real hella models...
Here you go.

next step this weekend: painting the pop outs satin black.  Then I will attack the vent windows etc...

More to come:  interior works, shifter works and rebuilding my autometer setup.  So more pictures to come...

Thx for the nice photo...  My color is really hard to capture on a photo but you managed to do that well!  I have a crappy camera myself so my color never seems right on my pictures.  :-\

No, I don't have nankang tires.  Front I'm running michelin tires, in the back I'm running Goodyear regatta's.  yes, the size is 205/70/15.  The goodyears doesn't come in a pure vintage look but I'm satisfied with them.  They stick pretty well on the road, not much wheelspin and not too expensive.

Did some work on the berg shifter yesterday.  the shifter is 3 - 4 years old but the paint was already peeling off, it was cracked around the lettres, looked liked the paint reacted on the surface of the "cheap/bad" aluminium I gues...  ???  I removed the paint and I'm planning to polish the shifter and put the "gene berg" in gold to match my decklid...  Some pictures after I removed the paint.  If you look closely you can see the f*cked up surface...

Okay, Because all my works on the beetle aren't that big I can do different things at the same time.  Next step is putting flat glass in the front lights.  Here a picture of my yellow sealed beam...  What should I do with the direction light?  Any thougts...?  I'm installing the european back lights so there are 3 options:
1: leave it as it is...
2: put orange lenses in it to match the rear lights.
3: paint them yellow to match the front sealed beams

This evening I will get my exhaust back after a "get it more quiet" treatment...  More pictures to follow...  8)
