Title: The 67' looker is finally making way....5 years later
Post by: Brian Silva on July 23, 2008, 03:00:21 am
This has been a long project of mine. Just trying to get everything just right on this one. Just a few things left, a few more dollars and some blood and sweat to get it going. The push is now on for Sacramento Bug-O-Rama. We'll see if it's a go. Here are some shots of the progress.

It is a great looking car...!
Your decklid looks good too, better (in my opinion) than the Paintbox ones available over here.
Compare your lower swage line on the lid.

It's been a while but progress is being made! On the push to try and get this car done once and for all. Finished the fuel line install. Should of done i when the body was off but oh well. Not a terrible job if you think it through. Here are some pics.

The engine is making way as well. A few changes have been made from this picture though. A mag is now installed and heads have changed. More pics to come.

Haha Thanks Dan. This is a different car from the last car (Blue 67') I had. But yes, This has been a 7 year project due to numerous set backs. But, it will get done in a timely manner now.

Hi Rick, long time no see! How's Steve Hollingsworth doing? As for the decklid, it has no markings anywhere so i honestly have no clue who manufactured it. I have been thinking of possibly making a mold and reproducing them because I have had 100+ people ask me for one. I do know its from the late 60's-70's era by talking to who I got it from. Wish I knew more.

I've got one, too. Purchased it from Daniel Hood years ago, and luckily it's never been mounted :) No markings on mine either, but I've heard that Auto Haus had something to do with them. I think there was/is a place in the UK reproducing them, but I'm not sure.

may be paintbox , but i heard that they don't fit well  :-\

Title: Re: The 67' looker is finally making way....5 years later
Post by: Brian Silva on March 15, 2010, 21:52:38 pm
Yeah, I think paintbox was the company reproducing them. Heard the same as Fabs as far as fit and finish with the reproductions. I think Zach is right about Autohaus possibly making the decklids we have. If I remember correctly, I had seen them in an Autohaus catalog years back.

Well, after a hiatus on working on completing the car, I finally got the chance to finish it as the fiancé wants it ready for the wedding in May! Just got the 5 speed back from Rancho, motor is back from my builder and finally in the car. Have a few loose ends to finish before we get it running. Waiting for an A1 custom sidewinder and a traction bar. Then it's off to get the electrical completed.

Here are some specs on the motor:

2332
42x37.5 Autocraft stage 3 heads ( older midget racing heads) should make plenty of power!
CB2300 camshaft
5.4 rods plan to try different rod lengths for power range
10.7:1 compression

should make some good power and should be fun on the street! Hopefully the 5 speed helps compensate for the large lift cam though..

swapped pulleys to Jaycee version. Very nice stuff!

Well,

Car is off to get the wiring completed. Should have it back on Sunday. Slap the exhaust on, finish some oil lines and fuel lines, fire her up! I will post some pictures once the car is back. Can't wait to get it on the street and see what it will do!

Hey brain i see that you use the bypass of jaysee.what did you with the oil plug on flyweel Side block it or not or what other mods did you do to case fore a correct use?
Cedric
Btw nice car!

Hi Cedric,

Jack from Jaycee and I had a quick discussion on the setup for remote bypass. He mentioned that the bypass at filter mount will bypass oil to the sump if it senses above 80psi at the remote mount to keep from blowing up the oil filter or lines. You can actually leave in the stock bypasses or remove and plug the 3/4 plunger if you would like. He didn't mention any added benefit in doing so. In my opinion, the more bypasses the better although, oil pressure should definitly be monitored as it is somewhat overlooked. I am running a universal case so I got Jaycee's adapter with a -8 fittng to run the bypass line to. If you don't have a universal case, you will have to add a sump and drill and tap it for a fitting to return the oil to the sump.

His by pass oil pump cover can also be run in conjunction with this system as the bypass is set at 120 psi to act as a second or third bypass in the system. This cover is easily adaptable with a universal case and his adapter. He has great information on his website about the product. If your interested, give him a call and he will glady ansewer any questions.

After a LONG wait, it was worth it. Got my new A-1 1-3/4 Stainless sidewinder exhaust. After looking the exhuast over in and out, I have to say Tiger is class act act when it comes to his products. The exhaust is damn near perfect! Nice to see thick flanges which are surfaced "true" and not warped out of the box. Excited to see how it sounds.

Well, picked up the car over the weekend. Got the bolt on's completed today as well as the exhaust, oil lines and fuel lines plumbed. Just missing 1 more oil line and it is ready to be started up. Should hopefully have it going by Wednesday.

The car is now road worthy. I put 100 miles on it over the weekend and it runs great! It absolutley pulls like a freight train but also drives like a mild 2 liter when you are just cruising around. Making some adjustments to the front end for better handeling but it's nice to have it on the road! Had an encounter with a z06 corvette yesterday and let's just say he wouldn't pull up next to me for 4 stop lights...Off to the dyno next week to see what it's putting out.

Well, a year later and the project is finally completed. I have had the chance to put about 2500 miles on it so far and still adjusting things here and there. Overall, it drives like a new car! Here are a few pictures of it in its current state. Time to hit more shows this year and hopefully see what it turns at the track. So far the car has made 196 hp at the wheels at 6500 (pull to 7k) with belt and the mag was cutting out. It should be making a bit more after I swapped the magneto to an mad setup as well as some carb jetting changes as well. Looking to hit the 200hp mark at the wheels and pull it to 8k as it still had some power left in it.
