Perfect, but you can also use the flat grey exhaust paint. Anything else like case colours will burn off. I used the grey exhaust paint on my cylinders 6 years ago. Still perfect, even after some thinner wash downs.

Just be careful not to use the High Temp Exhaust paint on your cylinders.  I used to use that a long time ago then I found out that it has clay in it.  It bakes on and will tend to hold in the heat.

The paints billed as exhaust paints will all be insulating in nature, so be careful.

My old boss, Jerry, told me the old VHT was a "radiating" black paint and was THE only paint to use if a guy was going to paint a case black. I liked the way it looked, had a distinct "sheen" to it.

Haven't seen the VHT Black Oxide paint in years. Used to love their exhaust paint for my VW headers/mufflers back in the old days. Now, I use Orr-Lac on my current A-1 system. Painted the heaterboxes gray, the header, black, and the muffler tips silver. Their high heat paint is rated at 1,200º F. So far, I really like how durable it is and how well it's held up. The black part is the only component that needs to be touched up every now and then. The gray and silver look like the day I sprayed 'em. I found this stuff at my local auto parts shop... Hap's in Lakewood.

I hope that you locate something that you're looking for. Even when I was young, I never used high heat paint on anything but the exhaust system. That never made any sense to me.

The VHT very high heat header paint is very good - must read instructions all the way - did my baja exh over 2 months ago and still good - once cured even chemical proof.

VHT has something called "barrel paint" now, for motorcycle cylinders.  Might call and ask if it is compatible with VW cylinders.    ;)

If Dyno was on TV I'd go looking for commercials. With Billy Mays, I just want to kick the set in.

I used to read Hot Rod & Custom & Custom Car back in the '70's and VHT paint was always advertised and almost every car had a painted engine or at least some parts.

The stuff we had was Sperex.

Also the local Auto Factor had stuff made by Spectra. (similar name, much cheaper product though)
