wow!!!

thats looks extremely tired  :(

and as usual for a uk car, it WILL be rotten  :-\

dechromed, stock height rear, fast motor!  ;D

but 58-59 beetles are pretty rare in the uk!! so would be a good car to save!
have no idea why, but ive seen lots less than ovals!

but panels are pretty expencive, as they have oval wings and 4 tab bonnets.

Hi!

As beetletom said, it looks a little `worn` ;D

Its amazing what can be done with a welder & some patience though ;)
If you need some cal inspiration though a look through the many threads of EBI1 & 2 pictures should keep you busy.

Cheers,
Kev

Cool! Thats 3 English Capri Blue '59's I know about!

My one needed the bottom 6" replaced and so did my friends, if you've got the skills or money then go for it!  ;D

Hi Coppernob,

To be honest, it doesn’t look to bad! A really good wash, and a polish and the body would probably come up decent! :)

Yeah the paints shot on the bonnet, but with a bit (ok loads!) of work it is should be save-able as the steel looks solid. I'd deffo try and do this as good used 4 tab bonnet go for up to £400!!

Also if possible save the wings. As beetletom says there oval wings which people are also asking extortionate prices for! A good option if they are shot is to go for daymouldings fibreglass wings as there a really good fit and a bout a 1/4 of the price of genuine!  :)

I think it’s a really good project as its all there, so your not trying to find part to begin with.

Good luck with it!

Hello Dude,

How is the 59 coming on? I been hearing good things about it!  :)

I finally got the 58 turned round! :) A bit of work needed on the other side, but hopefully I can save the rear quarter with all the original pressings! :)

We'll have to have a geek chat soon! ;D

As mention previously day mouldings are a great wing and made locally to me, but ideally need stone chipping on the inside as i have found they can chip quite easily but the fit is perfect. Good luck with the project and keep us posted. Alex

well my cam aint working at the moment so i will update with wat i want from the 59 and how i want it to look..
basically im only 17 so my budget aint busting so all i really want is a cool solid bug. I am very lucky to have a lot of people who are willing help me out  ;D so really shouldnt be to hard  :-\
the look im going for is the typical .. standard rear low at the front not major low but just LO'e'NUF (had to add that in lol) The Sanchez aka aka matt has got a set of BRMs i can buy so the basics are all there..
engine wise i have to be careful bcos of insurance but i may have a 1914cc for her if i can sort it out with a mate which should be fun  ;D
i am also gunna be keeping some of the cool retro stuff like my dehne fuel gauge,, i am also on the look out for a 50s radio just to fill the hole in gunna use it as a dummy and have a cd player under the seat or hidden somewhere.
so yer drop a comment or advice on what looks cool and how to achieve a proper cal
cheers
stu  :)

Stu, if Mat is advising you then you won't go far wrong! Looks like a nice car in general! In common with what the others have said, keep as many of the original panels as possible, although that drivers side rear wing looks like it's past it's best! As far as Cal Looking it, your plan of BRMs and a 1641 will be a nice start, and the 1914 is even nicer! Whichever motor, dual quiet pack exhaust would look good, and I'd also lose the bumpers. Avoid repro tat wherever possible and keep it simple and period looking.
Good luck with it! :)

yeah in morellis, not happy about them, as they mixed 2 batches of paint for my car and one is a totally different shade!

well yer wing kinda fell off whilst loading it up lol. so yer that had to go as for everything else im getting my seats re-stiched and well yer generally tart everything up. I have got a set of 58 doors in very good condition and i was going to use them to repair mine but i think there to good to chop so i will get a bottom section from dubfreeze.. getting full brake rebuild kit and if the price is right and i can find a decent conversion kit i will go for discs up front..
cheers for advice mate  ;D

how much do drop spindles widen the front?

3" looks good, when you run dropped spindles, it pushes out the wheels, so it looks like a 2"

3" looks good, when you run dropped spindles, it pushes out the wheels, so it looks like a 2"

Which is a good reason to run a 2" beam, so the dropped spindles pushed it back out to only 1" narrower than stock... ;) No wheelbarrows here! :-X
