Talking of new 500's, I know it looks gay, especially in yellow. But I quite enjoy stealing Miss Monster's 500  :o It's a real hoot to drive, only 100 bhp, but by christ does it make the most of it! Typical Italian small car, thrash the tits off it and you have an ear to ear grin  :D

The 500 looks ace! There's an awesome 600 hill climb car I've seen somewhere, mental bike engined beast. Oh and I prefer Sarge's Rambler. It looks far cleaner. Heaps of work gone into the other one though  :o

Just to make it clear, for you that think the 500 is my car:  :(  sadly enough it isn't.

It is a Belgian car though, it was featured in GR8 a Plastic Tuning mag, just bought it for that particular car. These pictures I found on the web but I have the feature somewhere. Speedwell aren't you the archivist ?  ;D ;)

I have always dreamed about such a car though. When I was 20 I was always talking about building a Fiat 500 racecar. I wanted it to be tube-chassied and with a Hayabusa engine instead of a Blackbird but pretty much the same otherwise. Always much of a talker, not much of a do-er. Let's finish the 66 first.  ::)

Anyone else notice how some of the ugliest, forgotten about cars make for the best hot rods?  Who in their right mind would buy a '54 Kaiser new off the showroom floor....seriously! :-\

No Concours car, this is the rental-mobile of Derek Bell.
He had the most unfortunate luck. After driving the 917 coupe on track Saturday, he fell somewhat ill and in the need to quickly exiting the vehicle to satisfy an upset stomach. As he generously puked over the scenery, he looked behind him to see in horror the car rolling downhill and hitting no less than FIVE other vehicles! He put the car in neutral instead of "park".
We were laughing so hard when he told us the story that we nearly lost our own lunch. 

The famous Vincent that first reached 150MPH at Bonneville with its driver nearly naked to decrease drag, generating one of the most famous photos of all times:
Pretty cool, hey? Well our friend Alain de Cadenet had to drive the thing during a 50 mile parade in Carmel and on the PCH all the way to Big Sur and 3 days later was still describing the condition of his privates to us on the field at Pebble beach. Pretty hilarious and impossible to report here.

It's a Hamann conversion, I lifted it from another forum. It was parked up in Grosvenor Square in London (very expensive area). I'm afraid I have no details on it other than that. It is rather awesome though  :D

Take off the caps and I could run open, unsilenced pipes. With them on, the single tailpipe to the side was used, with 'full' silencing. Needless to say, I just used to run it on open pipes most of the time!

Got our 'Vert passed the technical inspection today (MOT for Brits, probably something nobody in US has to worry about?) in 2nd attempt, last inspection was 2001, teared into pieces in 2003 for pan off resto. Now almost complete and soon I can think about finding a prospect for proper Cal Look car..

Sheila and the beast after a nice putt along Pacific Coast hwy Huntington beach area.

Stock 30hp so won't be Cal Look. I do like Resto Cal as much as Cal Look. I raised the suspension for the inspection, so it'll sit lower and yes ( :)) with fully polished Fuchs, chromed if I manage to buy certain set. Lots of stuff to do still, like new interior.


What I have in my mind has been two words for a while "'67" and "LEMNADE" (if I remember the license plate correctly). There are other inspirational later 70's or early 80's cars too  ;)

I am letting go of 'Vert some time but I'll keep it along the project so I can enjoy driving something in the meanwhile.

When my wife and I went for a weekend @ the sea,we saw this "BIG"   ;D  car.
I found out it's an Italian Autobianchi (from the early '60s ?)
Would look great with a "flatfour" and erco's I think.  ;)

alright, here goes. i don't think i've ever posted in this thread, but i do quite like watching the pics  ;D
but the hot rod above doesn't actually look too difficult to build judging from the mechanics etc. is that the case with many ... forgot the name A.. or B hot rods? or isn't this very fair to say? ;)

Well, what do you mean by "not too difficult to build"? Making complex things look simple is often the most difficult task. I don't know the details of the car but judging from the pics there are some mods like

metalwork
– chopped roof
– angled a-pillar
– filled roof

chassis work
– front end: dropped I beam axle
– rear end: quick change
– hydraulic brake system

engine work
– rebuilt and hopped-up flathead

interior
– fabrication of floor
– fabrication of (what looks like aluminium) door panels
...

That's just the obvious modifications, apart from the complete restoration as it was orginally built in 1951. Now it's up to you to decide whether that's difficult or not.  ;)

I think it was designed in England, it was a Hillman Avenger before being facelifted and rebranded as a Chrysler after a facelift. They did a version called the 'Tiger' which was designed to compete against the Ford Escort Mexico and RS models. Did fairly well in rallying if I remember correctly.

Rode my bike down the street today to the Doheny Woody Fest.  There were over 100 cars easily and some amazing works of steel and wood art.  The rarest of the rare was there.  It was a 46 Merc 4wd.  Only 4 were ever made.  Car is worth $$$.  Also bitchin' Packards, Morris Minors, etc.. stuff I have never seen before.

This story really hits home with me. What I am saying is this: The owner of this priceless Ferrari had the tenacity to actually race the car, rather than allow it to collect dust in a museum or just enter it into car shows. My observation is that the owner of this Ferrari has testicles that still function. He is not some dried up old prune that rants about how he may have done it "back in the day".

There is a group (club) of air-cooled VW owners who fit the description of "dried up old prunes". Some build their cars, take them to car shows, cruises and the like, but NEVER run them down a race track. They are equipped with high performance (some >200HP) naturally aspirated engines, generally running on 91 RON pump gas, close ratio 4 or 5 speed gearboxes, some with near perfect paint jobs. My rant is: if you are gonna build it, RUN IT! Parking along side a drag strip next to the stands in a "display only" motif is absurd. If you can not afford to run it or replace it, then sell it and buy a Honda

Great warbird pictures...I've been putting off buying a ride on the B-17. Should probably do it

Yeah, and strangest thing was that my surfing session began by googling "Joe Pisano", as the name was familiar and couldn't remember from where.. The answer was the Mike Dunn Dodge Omni Funny Car that was in many magazines 20 years ago.. Cannot remember how I ended up to selvedgeyard  :D

My dads old funny car partner was Tom Ridings and he later drove for Joe Pisano. Joe was owner/founder of Venoliia Pistons. Way BITD Tom Ridings father owned Ridings Cadillac in Long Beach, Joe Pisano was an avid Caddy owner, bought a new car every year from Ridings Cadillac. Back in those days my dad was a mechanic at Ridings before moving on to bigger and better things. He became very good friends with Joe Pisano which lead to friendships with Joe Mondello (Pisano's first driver was Sush Matsubara and he ported cylinder heads for Mondello) , Howard of Howards Cams, Art Carr, Dee Keaton and Mickey Thompson (Dee was Mickeys crew chief) and a host of others. All of these friendships enabled him to drag race on a very small budget. Pistons were mostly free, Mickey gave him a lot of "experimental" parts.............you know, the good old days!

I was working for a grading and paving company and was responsible for the grading of the road course at Fontuckey --- THey had us tied to the weirdest requirements as far a grading that course and they made it SSOOOOO rough. I want to apologize to anyone who has to drive that thing because it is rough. I took the project manager for a ride before it was paved and showed him how rough it was and explained how easily it could be smooth out -- He didn't want to hear it -- said the course had been designed by someone famous and no changes were to be made -- Then it was paved and (I forget who designed it) drove it and was PISSED about how rough it was -- of course the Project Mgr couldn't remember our trip around the course in my truck and it became all my fault LOL ---- --- Gotta love construction and politics LOL

Tracks that get used need to be repaved every 7 years, they aren’t done efing if up. 
Today my guess Chuckwalla is the smoothest track in California.
At 200mph smooth enuf rwy at the Mojave mile.

This is a beautiful one,I didn't know that Abarth also modified Simca's,I thought they did only Fiat's.

They made a few things for the Simca 1000 (called Abarth 1150), but it's a rare car. By the way, Simca was created before WWII by Fiat to sell rebadged Fiat's in France without paying taxes, then it was taken back by french after the war. Then it's complicated, Simca had affairs with Ford, Chrysler and finally Peugeot that let the brand dissapear with Talbot...

No, because the pick-up was available in the US in autumn 79, and the round headlights dissapeared on the Rabbit in autumn 78.
