well its 1.30am Monday morning, I have just got back to London from SCC.  What a fucking awesome show.  I am tired, but will post pics and thanks etc when(if) i wake up.

Sitting at work with a big smile, to tired to do anything. What a weekend!!! Mindblowing. Thanks to everyone that was there for making this the best scandinavian VW event EVER!!

oh my god what a weekend!
I just got home 5 hours ago and I'm still in a.. well undescribable mood....
750-800 people from 10? nations and over 300 cars.. wonderful cars...
I keep hearing cars drive by outside my house, and in my head they sound like cars pulling up in the line up...
Also got race for my first time.. I'm still excited! 13.03 with a 1.7 60 foot... Now I have something to improve :-)

Was back home at one o'clock this morning, and like many others I am sitting in my quiet office and still hearing the roaring flatfours! To me it was the best event I attended this year, with a lot of cool people, a fantastic weather, a breathtaking show on the strip with many hot fast cars, a big variety of stock engined cars (including six Kübelwagen, 3 Schwimmwagen, a Hebmüller, loads of pre-58 Beetles, and so on), and a very particular diet (something like 10 or 11 very tasty Hamburgers over 3 days...). Thanks a lot to all the organisers, who sacrified their freetime to make all this possible, and see you next year!

Its 11.30am I have just woken up.  My body aches, i smell, but i still have a buzz.

I must thank JHU for collecting me Friday morning, and his girlfriend for taking me back to the airport in the Sunday evening.  Austin for putting me up for the weekend, what an awesome barn!  Lots of other Norwegians for giving me free beer and food for the weekend.

Good to see Russell, Richie, Wrey, Frank, Dave, Mat and Sal.

I earned my crew Tee shirt :)  I now know how to sweep Norwegian style, and put road signs up, even if people did point out to me that one was upside down (although there was a reason).

I was sad to leave, but needed the comforts of my own bed.  The flight home was shit!  Landed at Stansted 35 mins early, to be then kept in the plane for 45 mins because the main doors at the terminal building were broken.  2 hours later I got into my car, the M25 was closed so I had to drive into London and then out again!  Does it matter.....NO :)

SCC was one of the most memorable events of my live although I haven´t even been there with my own car. We had such a great time up north and hated the we had to leave on sunday afternoon to get our flight at Torp airport.
Rune, Oystein, JHU and the unknown owner of our '67 "rental car" in particular: THANK YOU VERY MUCH! We hope to see you guys on november 1st!
I´m now sitting in the office and can´t really concentrate on work. There are still too many impression circulating in my head... ;D

This picture tells all about the atmosphere at SCC 08. A smile as big as the stinger, even though he knows very well the tranny is dead. This mean norwegian looker has been resting for while, and was finally put back on the track at SCC by Jee Ent. I did not get that many pictures with the camera during the weekend, running around in my orange crew shirt. Not very productive at the office today either  :D

We got the air polluted as well with foreign rubber smoke...

Thank you all for a great weekend! So cool to see that many nations represented up here in Norway. Great cars, people, track and weather! And a special thank-you to all SCC crew and the racers who gave 200% on the track! I will need a few days to calm down...

The event was mind blowing, awesome cars, awesome times and most importantly really awesome people. Thanks to the organisers for stepping up and taking over Gardermoen for the weekend, the event really came together and it'll be good to see everyone again next year, one way or another I am sure I'll be back there as you can't say you're into this thing and miss action like that! I enjoyed it in 2006 but this was a long way better. Wow!

I haven't really had a chance to look at any pictures yet and I'm not sure I can remember too much as there was quite a bit to take in but I remember seeing some numbers like 9.1, 9.2, 9.4, 9.6, 9.9 and the like flashing up quite a bit, ( :o ) it's definitely different in Scandinavia!

For reference: The "Skinne Beetle" of Norway on Kobus' video clip: Built by the Skinne brothers many years ago as a street / circut car and has had numerous engines over the years. The last dosen of years the Skinne brothers have been building fast Pro Stock cars with V8's - they are European Champions in Pro Stock and the only european team to make into the top 16-car ladder in the NHRA. The Skinne brothers never forget their VW-background and this last winter they decided to put their bright heads and hands into a new engine for the old Beetle... A wasserboxer block and humongous turbo on top.... a whopping 851 HP and - get this - 1110 Nm on the dyno!!! Got it off the dyno saturday morning, took it to SCC, rolled it off the trailer and did a 9,6!

You might not know where you were when Armstrong stepped on the moon, when color TV was introduced, when the wall fell or when Kennedy got shot ...... but if you weren't at Gardermoen when the earth rumbled as the Skinne Beetle launched......you missed out!

Sunday afternoon:
Finally the clutch and engine is in CSP's fiersome Type34... Ron Lummus is ready behind the wheel on the starting line of what he describes as one of the best tracks he has seen.... Smooth burnout...staging....green light....the airplane-looking red monster launches hard, lifts the front and the torque of the Johannes Persson-built engine twists the car slightly to the right and the car virtually goes sideways, but forward through first gear....experienced Ron doesn't even think about letting off on the right foot...slams it into second and continues his unbeleivable flight to the 9,116 pass....HOLEYMOLEY! We were priveleged to be able to feel, smell and breathe such a moment at SCC - thanks a million to Peter, Ron, Johannes and the CSP-team for the fun!

When R"ivstart Productions" finish their official SCC2008-DVD you can see this moment in history, but if you weren't there you can never feel it... See you in 2009!

That car was some kind of crazy but what a machine! Great guys too.  :)


Oh yeah! It's going to do an 8 for sure. They should have taken Barbie though, someone left her behind and the car was behaving like a bitch in the pits. I think they're going to be tired when they get back!

FYI. The Skinne beetle and engine is buildt by Tor Øyvind Skinne.  His is no longer working at Skinne Bros, he has his own garage where he buildt this car and engine.  There is a lot of hard work into this engine. He has had many setbacks during the years! Last year he broke the crank out fine tuning the car. (I think it was the night before SCC)  There is a lot of potesial in this motor!!!  I think we will see 8 second passes when the chassis and tracktion is better!!

As long as he didn't do any damage to the motor, there's not exactly not much spannering time before next weekend :)

just like tobi and all the others said -thanks for one of the best events i've ever attended! i am still stunned about the whole package -the trip-the landscape -overwhelming hospitality -the track and so many of the fastest cars of europe! especially i'd like to thank øystein, rune and jhu for organising a 67 beetle for the trip from torp to the track and back and giving us a place to sleep - we felt right at home!

It has max HP in the 5xxx range (dont remember excatly)  its 2,8L. 
This is a street car and runs on pump gas!! stock VW case and heads.  all heavily modified.

Just got back home an hour ago, 1800km in 24 hours... ouch!  :D

This week-end was awesome! I managed to get from 15.1 to 13.89 on street tires and with fan belt, pretty happy with that number! Phil with his green 80's car got his personal best, 12.9. shreck got a 14.7 if i remember right, not bad for a mild 1915 and Pat/Vanessa kept pulling nice wheelies with the 62! Good score for our small Das delegation.

The vintage line-up was really impressive! And also lots and lots of great cars that you don't see often in "southern" Europe (aka belgium  ;D )

It was really nice to be there, nice chatting with all of you guys! Glad i could meet in real life all the guys i knew trough the lounge. I think we all had a great time and we'll be back next year with more people from Belgium for sure!

And to finish the week-end, that little cruise in Lee's Manx was great! thanks dude, hope you got home ok in your plastic toy. Now i know i want one!  ;D

A BIG, BIG, BIG THANK YOU to all of you who came all the way up to Norway to make this a fantastic event!!!

I`m so very happy now, sitting in my office, and letting all the impressions just rush through my head!

Skinnes engine is as mags is sayiong equipped with Pauter rods and crank. The rest is more or less homemade by the Skinne team, which also includes Vidar Strand, which is known for his BMW's (8 seconds M3 I think). The Skinne car is built based on own ideas, and the most impressive part is that Tor Øyvind Skinne is 90% blind (the car is driven by his friend). It is also quite impressive that the car was driven from Gardermoen back home to Østfold on the street after the 9,6 pass, which is a 120 km drive!!!!! Rumors say that they are now installing a full cage to the car, and that it will be driven at Right On Street Finals next week-end. The engine was not driven at full boost this saturday, so when the traction problems are solved, the car should be able to make a much faster pass!!!!!

I grew up the same place as Tor Øyvind Skinne and first visited his workshop when I was about 14 years old. The purpose of the visit was to buy parts for the moped I was trying to make go a bit faster. After some wrenching, my moped was capable of about 80 kmph which was OK but of course not nearly as fast as Tor Øyvinds moped that managed in the neighborhood of 150 kmph. Fast forward 25 years to SCC 2008: My beetle did a quite respectable 11,9 at the strip while Tor Øyvinds beetle did a stunning 9,6. See a pattern ?  ;)

Anyway, here are some facts about the engine. Any errors in the specs given are mine.

The engine has been developed and built by Tor Øyvind Skinne over a period of several years. The current version of the engine has the following specs:

WBX case – heavily modified by owner

WBX stock spec aftermarket heads from AMC (because AMC heads have better alu than the stock vw heads) - heavily modified by owner

Stroke & bore: 86x101,6 (4”) = 2789 cc

Crank: Pauter

Rods: 5,5” Pauter

Oil pump (dry sump): Pauter

Rockers: Pauter 1.3

Cam: custom grind

Pistons: JE (custom made after owners specs)

Injection: Autronic SM4

Precision Turbo – made after owners specs

Fuel: Pump gas / E85

Porsche G50 gearbox

Has dynoed 851 hp at 6100 rpm / 1100 NM at 5200/5300 rpm

(theoretical hp peak should be at 6500 rpm)


This is not a dragrace only car. It is used on the street and the it will be driven to and from races once it is properly set up. It is also good for track/road racing. An earlier version of the car (about 1992/1993) drove the 150 km trip to the dragstrip where it did a best time of 12,18 / 189 kmph before driving the 150 km back home. The car runs on street tires and is registered for road use in Norway.

Tor Øyvind Skinne builds high power engines for a living and is listed in the Norwegian phone directory if you are interested in his services  :)

SCC 2008 was FANTASTIC! Thanks to all the guys out there, definitely one of the best weekends in my life! :D

I just hope I can be at SCC 2009 with my car and hope to bring more guys from Poland - somebody has to sweep the track, right? ;)

Finally back home - after travellling +1000km. I just signed here to send my thanks to SCC team. This event was awesome great and spirit of the event was something that I have never seen before. Like one big family. Our team's (JussiFin) results made the experience even more pleasant.

This meeting started as a usual meeting but….
We hit the road Thursday at 6 AM and arrived Friday 5 AM, 23 hours and 1800km later at the Gardermoen race track while it was raining.
Friday we wanted to test the car, but the brand new engine struggled under 4000 RPM, while I wanted to do a test run I didn’t had a second gear, by now you are probably are thinking that our weekend sucks.
But now, I think we got help from all the Scandinavian Racers, Jurgen drove 1 hour ½ back home to get some tools to open the gearbox, Stian and Michael provided us some tools.
We removed the engine and tranny, Patte helped us to fix it, we mounted the gearbox back in the car wit help from Michael and we went sleeping at 4 AM.
Saturday at 7 PM we mounted the gearbox, solved the Fuel and Ignition problem and did a 10 sec run.
Special thanks to Johny and the while SCC team for a the best meeting ever and to Michael, Stean, Jurgen, Patte and everybody else ho helped us, you guys are fantastic and remember to call me when there is a house for sale, I move to Scandinavia.

Yep,third gear.Need to put down some rubber in the start to get a good launch and 201m,does'nt have that mutch power as many of the other guys..yet.. ;)

I am so hooked! no more fan belt driving for me!

Wow! I'm just about to touch ground again tonight! have been walking on clouds since Friday night, throwing this event is a labor of love, always has and always will! Don't know how many times I have started to write this post and given up... there is really no way to do the event and the people justice...

There are so many people to thank, but Berger and Johnny are the first to pop up in my mind, then there is all the volunteers that do all sort of tedious but necessary jobs...and the Sponsors!! Thanks for trusting us with your cash!

I am so glad that so many took the chance to head up here for a few days of fun, and reading the forums people got what they wanted... enough racing to make them puke! And a dose of that X-factor, the SCC spirit... the camaraderie and complete strangers helping each others out is what REALLY make this event stand out...  its said a million times before; its all about the people! Seeing Lids and Kobus working their ass off in the sunshine out on the track just blew me away...! I wonder if the articles about will let the spirit shine thru?

Well well well....................................... what to say after a event like this.. My head has been overloaded with impressions and I find it hard to describe with words how I feel.

As I write this it is exactly one year since SCC 2007 and also one year since it was decided that SCC once again should be a VW only event and not a joint venture with the Norwegian motor magazine Right On. We had a meeting shortly after SCC 2007 and late 2007 NDRG (the owners of GIR) confirmed that we could rent the strip. From that day the chase for sponsors started and lots of hours and work went into finance SCC 2008. Without our sponsors there would never been a SCC 2008 and that is why I first would like to say my thanks to;

This car just did 9.26 and 247 km with a lot of wheel spin and the turbo boost is not as high as it was at SCC  :o

Sorry for OT but: It was with same boost as SCC event. (But that was with approx 1bar less boost than the 850bhp dyno pull) 9.26 run had almost same 201m ET, same 201m speed and same 60ft as the SCC run, but with no "trottle lift" on 4th and/or 5th gear.

The car now has licence down to ET 7.50s and 240kmh+

I know the boost, but I am not sure if Tor Øyvind wants it to be "official" yet :-[

He mentioned something about "let them be curios for a litle while"... I dont want to write anything without his "blessing" :-[

You have to back it up within 1% on the same day to get ity official,think they made only one fast run.But anyway,their car is mutch faster and more powerful than mine.I'm sure Skinne would have backed the time up if they got a bit more time on Sunday,I'm impressed not only by the car but also their driver.In my case this only means even more time in the garage and another winter with a slim wallet( >:(),of course we'll try to fight back next year.. ;D

I mean, 1 bar less boost than the dyno-run probably still has 1-1,5 bar remaining in order to run a time like that on a 2,8 ltr engine. And its a heavy car by the looks of it, I say about my cars weight, around 900-920 kg (about 2000 lbs)

I agree with Mat about the driving aspect/ handling things on the car, as well:
No 'Big Wig' wing, no relocated (higher) rear suspension (by the looks of it), no shortenend front beam, totally clean and still running 245 km/u and back to 0. Total respect for all that!

I`m calculating 2010 to be the year when the americans comes to europe to race......after you and Ron have been telling them how racing is here ;)

It was a great weekend, it'd be nice if we could run these things all year round in Europe and not have the long winter break but on the plus side I suppose it allows the Scandinavians time to spend with their stills which is no bad thing.

It's one cool looking car! I can't find it now but I'm sure there's a thread here somewhere with pics of it from a few years back which show how it has evolved in time.  8)
