So whats the story with roller pedals? Good idea, bad idea? Trying to decide if I want to put one in my '67.

I put one in my Fastback. I like it, its very responsive. I replaced the cheap plastic roller with a skateboard wheel with sealed bearings. It rolls soooo smooth!

That is an interesting idea. Another option looks to be a "Cruiser Pedal".

I prefer the stock pedal. I ran a roller pedal in high school and it was so jumpy. The stock 67 pedal has a nice progressive ramp on the back to open carbs smoothly.

My only real problem with the stock pedal is I keep bending the arm. Heavy foot I guess but it wrecks havoc on trying to set the carbs. Plus the little plastic roller doesn't fill me with confidence.

Install a MOON alum gas pedal they make them for VW's

I saw those. I hate to admit it but I actually like the Moon barefoot foot pedals.  :-[

Louis the big problem with the barefoot pedals is, since you have a '67, you can't get the matching small barefoot for your dimmer switch.

I have contacted the guy who repoed these to see if he is making any more. If not, I may try to make one out of steel.

Wolfsburg West used to sell those to us @ BH in the 90's....   are they not avail anymore?
Louis, if you keep the pedal area vacuumed and keep things lubricated (light oil or Bosch grease.....  credits to Sarge!) the stock unit won't give you grief. You'll have more worries with accelerator rollers and ramps on your 48's going dry and siezing. 

WW does not carry them anymore. I am just looking around to see what the options are right now. Thanks for the tip on the lubrication thing, I will remember that. BTW, its funny you mention Sarge as the one thing I noticed when I rode in his car was that it needed a new accel pedal cover.  :D

Okay, so I ordered a Cruiser Pedal from Russ this morning. Looking at his website it seems to be a quality piece. I also ordered a roller pedal and all the parts to rebuild the pedal assembly from WW. Last but not least, Donny B. is hooking me up with a '66 and earlier pedal assembly that is in good shape. I am thinking about having the pedals chromed and the base polished then run without any pedal pads. Should be a nice clean look. Plus I get the durability of the early style pedals.  ;D

I like my OEM pedal.  The roller just doesn't feel right.

just taken out the roller. you get cramps when you drive long drives. a good stock one will do for now.

No offense meant but why would those cruiser pedals be any better than a stock flat pedal? Is it size  :o

Its probably not, I just like the looks better. I am hoping that since it looks to have a little more offset it will help keep my big feet from hitting the gas and brakes at the same time.  :-[

I had a "stock" set up in my 65 ghia. By stock I mean aftermarket crappy pedal and hinge. I chose to use a roller pedal with an original cruiser pedal. It works much better than the stock style did. After messing around with the carb linkage and not being able to get full  throttle Ihad to drill a hole higher up on the roller arm and now it is all better. I do like the idea of replaceing the roller with a skateboard wheel though!

Louis, I did the an original cruiser pedal with a skateboard wheel roller in a speedster rep. I built and it was one smoooooth operating setup. In my opinion the cruiser pedal has a way more precise feel than the stamped steel stocker. Have fun!
