but does it work?
My SR 17 doesn't like the higher CR, locked advance and stiffer springs

yep...  SR15X is the standard 12V Bug starter that uses bushing,
SR17X is the self supporting 12V Type 1, 2 and 3 starter. I always liked the SR17X's but not as a wiper motor.  ::)

my inside connection says it will work. I will buy one and let you know....

the SR17 is .8 kW

BTW Sheep was the most creative parts guy @ BH. Who else would try to sell parts of the office furniture as VW parts?

can you keep us posted Jim?    it sounds like a good choice for my own engine which is getting put together over the coming winter and the price of those isn't bad either....if the shipping from the states is less than $70 it'll be cheaper than ordering a stock one from the UK.

cheers....jick

jim ,
i think its same as later a/c 911 g50 starters .
just changed part number from 911 to 964 .

i use a 993 twin turbo starter on my 964 , so i pressume they just changed part number again in 93

I use an SR17X which we list for autos. bigger than a stock starter. had one fitted for 10+ years, great starter

Porsche brought out a small aluminium starter that Bernie uses.

The SR68X works like a charm in Type 1.
Installed it last week.
