Title: Would I be overclutched?
Post by: airstuff on August 29, 2008, 21:08:26 pm
I'm still deciding on which cam to run in my 2276,but cam choice isn't my question right now.I see a topic about this which is just active

My problem is,that I want to know whether I would have too much clutch with my Kennedy Stage 2 in my 72.street car if I chooce to run something like Engle 125 or other milder cams, milder then FK45 ??

I meen if I have 160hp,is it too much clutch?

Stage one is good to about 180 HP. Daiken is always my first and only choice.

no,I don't have slicks

I got this stage 2 balanced with the flywheel, and with the hole combo, and now it would be a shame to have to balance a new clutch again, but If this Stage 2 is a no no for street, then I wil swap it for Stage 1

But If I already have the Stage 2,would it hurt?Or do I really really need the stage 1

i have a stage 2,
i ll tell you how it works when the car is driving...
i am just going to make a longer "clutch arm" by welding a second one on another one..
you can also buy a 100 mm version i think, i just dont know where...

as far as i know you should be asked how strong is your left upper leg? i have felt a stage 2 and it made me wonder how enjoyable it would be on the street... it's 2100lbs vs 1700lbs, right?

I am not big or strong, but I don't think the stage 2 is hard on your leg. If you are waiting at a traffic light you can always put it in neutral until it's green.
I have had cars with a stock clutch that has been harder. I can assure you that my friends Big Block Impala with manual trans, wire clutch and a harder cluch plate gives you a gym session every time he uses it... That's what I call a hard clutch...

Only thing which bothers me,is it to harsh for the engine and the disc in everyday street driving...

That kind of thinking will make you hate your car when it's done.
With only street tires, they don't have the grip necessary to provide the load that a Stage 2 can counteract.

I tried a stage 1 pressure plate with the 100mm clutch arm and the pedal felt like a stocker, but obviously gripped much better. I'll be getting 2 or 3 of those from you Bruce, as soon as I get around to measuring some cross shafts.

You should have no problem with the stage 2 on the street. When all is set up nicely, it is fairly easy to push.
