Title: Photos vs. Pictures?
Post by: Rick Sadler on September 21, 2008, 06:24:22 am
I was showing some (non-VW) friends this site and some of the photographs that have been taken. I have always marveled at the people that take photographs versus the picture takers (such as myself), for example Jim "Sarge" Edminston and Mark "DKK Fred" Kessenich, these guys are not in the business of photography, but rank among some of the top photographers that are here on the forum. Hat's off to them and the many other "amateur"  ;) (yea right) photographers that capture the true cal-look feeling in their photos. If you have someone to tip your hat to please share them and/or some of their photos. We salute you all.

Brian has some of the nicest photos out there as does Eric Ellis, Dean Kirsten, Robert K. Smth, Keith Seume, Stephan Szantai and nunerous other professionals. I don't know Ryan (at least I don't think I do) but I am speaking of the photographers that do not do this as a means of income.

Thank you for the kind words, Rick. I've always enjoyed Robert's, Stephan's & Keith's photography, too. I mostly shoot/write for an international skateboard magazine and another skateboard industry website as part time side jobs. Been doing that since I switched over to digital in 2005. In no way, do I consider myself a pro... but it sure is fun. I've been fascinated with taking photos since I was eight, when I was handed a camera for the first time.

Thanks Guys for the kind words. I enjoy taking photos of Aircooled VWs now as much as I did as a kid at my first BOR in 1979

I have much better equipment now and have the benefit of experience so my photos are much better now.

I hope you enjoy them for years to come

Here a shot for ya

Wow - I'm honored to be mentioned in this thread. Thanks, Rick!

A great photog who's name has not yet come up is Glenn Miller (Trackside Photo). In addition to the VWs that he's shot since back in the day, Glenn has also grabbed some killer images at all kinds of other racing events.

I wish there was an easy way for Glenn to share some of the many motorsports pics in his archives via the World Wide Web - I'd definitely pay to see that.

Thanks for the kind words, Rick!  I love taking pictures and have tried to learn from Deano and Stephan over the years.  It's been fun hangin' with DKK Fred at the events and watching his techniques as well.  ;D
