Wasn't there a lawsuit with Scat about stuff like that? Or are they "made in the USA" with a disclaimer that they are assembled in the US with parts produced elsewhere?

I never really have liked the way the hose nipple is on Russell fittings.

I'm with Mr Ratto. I stick with Earl's whenever I can, regardless of price.

Has anyone used the Jeg's or Summit house brands of hose or hose ends? Nice finish, better that Earl's I'd say. But similar hose nipple to Russel. I'd imagine it's a guarantee they're made in Asia somewhere. I have a couple of those in non critical areas. Oil and fuel lines only get the best.

Teflon lines for the fuel system? Interesting. Are you going that way for a particular reason or "just because?"

It lets the fuel flow through faster because it's slippier... ;) ;D ;D ;D

Well the slippery issue, ok. But every 2 or 3 years, or when the braided/rubber hoses are feeling stiff, i replace them.
An aircraft mechanic overhere advised me to go the teflon/braided way and never worry about the hoses anymore.

OK, I can understand that. Just keep in mind how much enjoyment you get from building new hoses every so often, then admiring your shiny new hoses.

The teflon lined hose is awesome.  You can run sulfuric acid through that stuff.  I like it because it's the best available.......media compatibility and temp ratings.....400+ degrees!   ;)

There was a guy on the Samba a while ago who was offering all (teflon line)  fittings and hoses... Anyone knows him ?

I thought AJ was offering kits..........not sure who else.    At any rate............I OFFER THEM!   ;D

I bought my stuff from HotrodVW. Good guy and he knows his business because its what he does and not a sideline. I plan to get my brake line stuff from him too.

This is more common that you know.  My understanding is, that only the majority if the roduct needs to be made in the counrty to have the "Made in ...." label.  That said, only 51% is made in the USA......I assume that includes packaging.  We used to see a lot of adapters coming in w/ a MADE IN CHINA ink stamp, so we'd hose it off w/ some brake cleaner and move on.  Then they started stamping it in to the forging, like that nut on the AQP fitting.  Then we told our vendors we want nothing with CHINA stamped in it.  All of a sudden, we start getign MADE IN KOREA.  There's just no end, and no market for the domestic product unfortunately.  As many people that want a domestic product, those same folks don't want to pay the domestic pricing.  It's a catch22, and we're shooting ourselves in the foot w/ it.  We want a US product, with import pricing.......it's just not gonna happen.  My experience fo what it's worth, it 99% of the import fittings I see are as good, or better quality machining than the domestic stuff is.  It's sad, but they're making decent parts..........except for those EMPI guys.   :D  I guess what I'm saying is, if you can buy and afford the US stuff......please do it.  If not, don't be afraid that it's junk, it'll prob be just fine.  Eric

I just tried to assemble some breather lines with Jeg's housebrand oilline AN-fittings....Please do not use this stuff for your major plumbing. The quality is plain horrible. I will try to post some pics later.

Wow......Hmmm.....I'm curious as to what's up w/ it.

I'm still working on the car. The threads just grind eachother out. You have to be very carefull. I was only using nylon woven hose to do my breather, and the fitting-threads just crumbled. I took out the head to sump lines as well and will dismantle them to see how everything looks. Then i will try to post some pics. (Stick to Earls, Goodridge or Aeroquip)


PS.I'm doing my oil / brakelines for the last 35 years.

I've got a few Jegs fittings that I bought a while ago, I made one up not too long ago and the thread completely stuck together and ruined the fitting (I still can't undo it). I thought it was just me so I didn't post about it  :-[ In a way I hope it was just me as they look nice and are cheaper than the others!

The last lot I just bought are XRP and instantly they look a much better fitting but when I screw them on to another fitting/adapter etc some thread on ok and others don't, they just get 'stuck'. Its really strange as on some fittings they work then on others they don't, for example, a few fittings will thread easily onto anyone of my adapter fittings I have but when I try them on my breather box and oil filter housing they don't thread nicely and get stuck! The breather box fittings and filter housing fittings definately work fine as my Jegs ends work and the used Russell fittings i have work too! My head hurts!!

It sounds to me like it's a thread issue, as in they're not cut right, OR.....electrolosis between two aluminum fittings. Do you guys ever try 'anti-seeze' on the threads?

I have used a lot of Summit fittings and they work great. I have never had a problem with them and they are much easier to assemble than Aeroquip.

All polished fittings came out this way. The anodized fittings are more or less ok. Still not good for major (or any plumbing). Use Anti-seize on fittings? You gotta be shitting me. Maybe some light engine oil. That's it.

Anti-seeze to prevent galling........if that was the issue.  I'm not sure it is.  Looks like bad tolerances??

Very Bad. I suggest, just buy the real brands. Earl's, Goodridge, XRP, Speedflow etc.
