Personally, I'd like to see a lot of the cars that originated here, stay here, but, alas, often times it's hard to turn down a good price, I reckon.  As long as they get a good home, that's the most important thing, I'd wager.

I think the biggest reason was the price the Japanese were paying for classic cars...
I'm no dealer, but I used to be deeply involved in the VW / Porsche "scene" and I've witnessed three sales that happened in the 90's where a Japanese "investor" would show up to the Pomona CA. swapmeet and pay cash on the spot for a car! The sales that I personally knew of, the SAME buyer paid full price involving three seperate vehicles at different swapmeets. These were not cheap cars... '54 Oval Ragtop- restored, '65 Type 2 Panel Van- un-restored but unbelievable condition, '65 356 SC Sunroof- restored. The "buyer" (small polite Japanese man) would make the deal and his "friend" (large, quiet, Japanese man who probably knew fifteen ways to immobilize you with a booger) would produce the cash from his Murse (sort of a manley purse ;))
These guys were very serious about buying up all the cool cars they could get ahold of.

Yeah, I never got that whole thing. And I still don't. If the owner built the car, here... it stays here, period. It's my right to be close-minded. Especially when it comes to cars.

Carry on.

Sorry, but my German and Swedish cars are staying here, with me. They were sold here, hence they're not going anywhere. I apologize for not being more precise in my original post. It's a sore subject with me. I'll gladly bow out of this thread that I had no business getting involved with in the first place.

As for cars going to Japan, I agree.  But I have seen too many times what happens to cars here.  Very rarely does the car wind up in the hands of anyone who appreciates it, and it is generally run into the ground.  Not always; generally.  Mine is going to Scotland because it will be in the hands of a man that will respect it and care for it, and that car in 20 years will still look as it does today.

Sorry if I've scrubbed some nerves raw here, but it's how I feel.

I, too hate to see cars go out of my country now, although several years ago one of mine went to Japan and the other to Sweeden. It was what it was, I wanted to sell, they wanted to buy... nobody was held at gunpoint.
I think the bottom line here is the owner of the car can do anything he or she wants to do with it... whether it peeves anybody or not.

Guys

I was having some fun ??? what i was trying to say was you should have sold them to me in the first place....rather than me trying to import them from countries such as Japan and Mexico....

Remember the UK and the USA are all one we are the 53rd state after Canada and us taking cars from you only saves them from you high gas prices..... ;D
