The Cal-look Lounge

Any thoughts about using quality fiberglass fenders & hood on a street car? Would it still be Cal-look?

We have a company here in the UK called "Day Mouldings" and there are ALOT of car running their wings/fenders - They are so good unless you were told you would never know the difference - I am still debating weather to use them or not  :-\ :)

CCC seems to be the company of choice here. I may go with their hood. I also saw someone has come out with a carbon fiber hood for early beetles. Just kicking around the idea.

It should be ok on the street CCC stuff is really good even rolled edges on the fenders.

  Although rule #36c sub sections 1,2 and 3 make fiberglass used on the street NON cal-look...... ::) ??? ;) ;D

I didn't think I'd ever run 'glass and I'm not yet but good glass is a hell of a lot better than some of the cheap badly shaped metal. I'd happily run Day Mouldings wings and if CCC is of a similar quality then I can't see a problem.

Louis I would not hesitate to use CCC stuff, speaking from direct experience with a hood and deck lid. Plus it  is lighter and will make your car faster! Faster is good, Cal-look or not.......... ;)

Lot's of guys ran fiberglass on the street.

I did back in the days,all my fenders where fiberglass and then switched to a full fiberfront 8)

I'm sure most of the brazilian wings and bonnets sold nowadays are lighter than fiberglass ones  :D

Paul Bate runs glass wings/bonnet and doors on his car, seems to go ok ;D

i also have day mouldings wings on my 67 & yes they are very good. i also run a paintbox glass bonnet & decklid too.
glass is good.........just no whaletails fellas :P

ive got a glassfibre bonnet on jade.not sure where in the states it came from but the qualitys outstanding.perhaps the ideaman may fill in here ;)

Barry, it is a Creative Car Craft.  I think they fit better than steel.

Really impressed with the Day Mouldings wings on my car.
They seem to be a better shape than some of the reproduction ones out there.

Ok how's nicked me origonal bonnet LOL !  No I haven't run a glass bonnet since 1990's and if I did it again I wouldn't use glass doors ' too much ag'.

Car still tips the scales at 1973lb with me !  ;)

Is there an exemption for original EMPI fiberglass deckilds and hoods as well as "Aronson" style decklids? I don't want to be in violation.  ;D

You know me, I'm old school! I still think you've got Empi 5's and the Big Boys Toys logos on the doors! ;D

I'm seriously thinking about running these Day Moulding fenders on my 66 as my front ones are not so sound anymore and I wouldn't have to weld them at the horn grills and indicators.

Does someone have the details of Day Mouldings (website, email adress, phonenumber)?

And does someone know the pricetag? I've read about 160 English Pounds for a set (guessing front or back not both). This seems very reasonable. Is it correct?

I have fiber-rear fenders from CSP. Perfect fit. The only thing i don't like about fiberglass in general is, that the stuff
stays alive for a VERY long time. I had my old decklid in a paintboot for a year or so. (warm-cool-warm-cool).

Do you mean that the compound has not completely cured and you run the risk that the glas deforms when it finally hardens on the car?

yep thats EXACTLY what he means - My manx STILL isn't fully cured even after a cople of years - Thats just how Fiberglas is  :)

£150 for a full set - very good value! Only problem is that you have to go to collect them, but you can order them in whatever format you want - sloping or upright headlamps, europa or blade bumpers, wingtop indicators and horngrilles can be deleted if needed. I've used two sets now and they are superb. Have a look in my indicator thread and you'll see a painted set, and I'll try to post up a pic later of a friends car that we painted to match the gelcoat - they're that good!

I`ve got a pair of day`s wings on the front of the oval, first time I`ve used them & I`m very impressed-fit better than the steel repro`s!
Is it just stock width they do though?

Yes, unfortunately. I think that's why Adele has gone for the CSP rears. They are as you say a better fit than the steel repro wings - those vary by up to an inch width on the rear! I've got a pair of genuine steel '60's front wings (that Monkiboy is having off me for his '66) that I used to line up the front of my '70, and the day ones are so close it's untrue! I certainly won't be using repro steel wings ever again! Genuine or 'glass for me!
