I always enjoy seeing that car.

Especially the engine. VERY nicely done. All business, no bling. Get in, shut up, hang on.

exactly. This car first caught my eye @ VW Jamboree in Costa Mesa, 1991. I was walking around with my friend, Suzanne, checking out some of the few traditional Cal Look type cars, when this green '67 really got my attention. If I remember correctly, and I'm sure I do, it was still stock ride height, with a larger front tire and standard 185 radials on the rear. This is all from memory. Basically, the car looked like a super clean, all original stock Java Green '67 with tan interior and real BRM mags. That is, until I walked around the back of the car and saw the old muffler Jim had on the car (before the A1), a big, coated turbo muffler on the driver's side of the car, bolted up to a 1-7/8" drag header. Obviously, this sleeper was far from stock. The cabrio decklid was open too and the motor you see in pics was there. Like Mark said, no frills, no fluff, just straightforward recipe for power. I couldn't get enough of this car, but as we had a 6 hour drive back to Northern Calif that day, we had to split. I didn't see Jim's car for the longest time, not until 1999 (?) at Classic. Will always be one of my faves. Nothing fancy, just a 12 second sleeper '67 in my favorite VW color.

the java green with that interiour is very cool, but i like my green cars best without chrome though,  :-\
but this one is for sure a nice looking car and maybe indeed underrated.

thanks Fabs for sharing your pics of Jim's car. Nothing looks as good in the sun as nice Java Green.  8)

When I saw the car very first time, it was before FF BRM's were available. They were the real deal.

Jim's rear tires are 235/60X15 BF Goodrich Drag Radials... 26.1" tall that "require" a 6.5"-8.5" wide wheel.   BIG RUBBER!! :o 8) 8) 8)

your right sarge big rubber. does that mean he was using them on the strip needing not to change wheels?

Yeah, you can drive those on the street no problem and they work well at the track.  For that size, you'll definetly need some motor, though. ;)

They work just fine on my 5.0 inch wheels.

just found this old post.... so cool to look @ pictures of this timeless car. To me this car pretty much defines a "DKP car", subtle, unassuming, and built to keep on kicking ass. Perfect recipe for a hot street VW.... Java green, still retains its "67 wierd parts", BRMs, and serious HP hidden under decklid. Doesn't get any better.

Nothing else to add except... I agree. Well put, sir. I'll always have a thing for Java Green '66/'67 VWs. I miss mine.

Hey Randy, you remembered! Na..I wish I did, that car was more like a sleeper. The stance was like like my blue one today, but stock rims, full trim, stock interior, but built IDA motor. This is why I like Jim's car, same outside but a few steps higher with BRM's and bumper's. Gotta say, Jim's is on the top of my list. Very nicely done!

Ted  ;D
