I would like to find out, or know about Kris Klingaman's bug (year,engine,pic's).Was it ever featured in magazines?And is Kris still around?The only thing I know is, that the car now is in Japan.

That was one bitching street car!! It's almost too bad it turned into a racer.

It was featured twice in Hot VWs - once as part of a double feature with Scott Bakkens '67, both on Empi 8's as fast street cars, and again as a race car.

It's one of my favourite cars of all time - I think it just looks right.

I have never  really looked much at this car before and only saw side shots so presumed it was a 67. I think its got to be the best late model ever! What year was it actually?
The Lucas indicators are in such a weird place on the first couple of pics!
Also it looks so right on the wide 5 DDS pie pans! I like late cars with wide 5 shame VW didnt keep Wide 5 throughout!

I've got a feeling it's a '68, looking at the fuel filler flap. I think '69 had a cable release and I know 1970 did.

My 68 has a cable release?! it is a late 68 tho first registered in october 68, aww its 40th birthday this month cool!

Ah, really you've got a '69! My '68 was Sept '67-built and that didn't have the cable release. It did have the bonnet release cable under the dash like early cars though!

Ayway, back on topic... I think I remember reading that Kris used a small engine - 1968cc or something similar! ;)

lovely car and a great racecar. maybe someone has some more pics with the empi 8's. it looks good and i also thought it was an under 2l engine.

The street version is one of my favorites. Great color, perfect stance, nice wheels and unusual engine.

is the 72mm crank unusual?

That car was surely one of "inspirational" cars I remember as a kid.
What amazed me was how it ran so freaking fast with such a small motor.

Look at those gear ratios.. and a 4.86 r/p.. It must have been turning over 9,000rpm across the finish line...
Amazing, still to this day...

Kris's car kicked ass and ran in the 12's or so if not mistaken or 11's. 8)

Im not sure if it was the same car that was crashed on Sacramento around 93-94, running on Super Street.

It was just sold to ERCO´s Erick Ballard, He got the declid and the rear fender hanging from the roof, on his shop.

Maybe it was a diferent car, just belonging to the same guy.

Not sure - but if it did it was repaired as it now resides in the Beehaus collection in Japan. Theres a small picture of it in this months Ultra VW magazine.
