Title: December Hot VW's
Post by: Sarge on October 25, 2008, 12:48:32 pm
Just showed up in the mailbox last night.  Bobby Welker's '67 Ghia has a nice feature inside.  This car was at Bug In 33 and she's a beauty.  The engine is a Pat Downs built, 217hp 2332.  Nice Job!! 8) 8) 8)

The icing on the cake is that he DROVE the car down from Fresno and back for the Bug In!

I just got the issue too and it is PACKED with stuff. The ghia is a beaut, but  I am a little partial to the 54 on  page 52. I know, bone stock, but Judson'd helps.  I also like the CNC bracket CB by Jaycee and the European Bug-in coverage.

As usual, I'm late to the party... HAHA!! I just got the Nov. '08 issue. The only reason I bought it was 'cause my friend's Notch' is featured. The car that SHOULD have taken first place at The Classic. Oh well... whaddya gonna do? It's voter choice and not experienced car judges.

 ;D

I haven't seen the Dec. issue yet. I live my life in SAE 30wt. oil... verrry slow and always last. It's better that way. I love my dial up connection and Commodore 64, too. Good times.

nice ghia, what is the trick with that fan shroud? cooling an external oil-cooler?
if it is, not a bad idea...

That's a DTM fan shroud from Raby's Aicooled Technology   http://www.aircooledtechnology.com/store/product.php?productid=16133&cat=0&page=1

I was lucky enough to see this car go together, it is beautiful inside and out.  (Makes me nervous just being around it.) On top of that its freakin fast!

Yes, I`ve known Bobby for a long time. His paint skills are extraordinary. Did you guys notice the injection setup on it?

Hope you have a lot of time and dollars set aside for research, because Mr. Raby has invested a ton of both in making it work as well as it does! ;D

I didn't even get to see the car show at Bug In 33, I was so busy walking around the swap/dealer displays and watching drag racing.  That was my only complaint about the Bug In, it's so darned big it's really hard to see everything.  Maybe next year I'll take a pit bike with me ;D

As for the new Hot VWs, great issue.  I've always been a big fan, but given where I currently live it's my lifeline to the VW scene; that, and the internet.

I wasn't talking about the basic external design, but rather the design of the shroud's function.  A lot of research went into making that shroud work as well as it does (from the cooling perspective) from what I understand.
