Title: 68 cabrio, eighties survivor Post by: lowfastbus on October 25, 2008, 18:37:18 pm Let me introduce my latest project... a late model cabrio.
It needs a far amount off work but allready has a nice look. Plans are; dechromed empi 8 spokes keeping the paint, maybe remove the painting on the decklid? 1700cc engine, color coded ;D put a bumper on the front to match the back ... Title: Re: 68 cabrio, eighties survivor Post by: j-f on October 25, 2008, 19:39:28 pm That's a true survivor :o
If the decklid is paint and not a vinyl stickers, I think it's better to keep it like that and maybe paint a second decklid if you want to change. Add red bumpers with hidden bolts. Change the rear visor for baby tornado, Give it the right stance with 145 and 165 (Or 155 and 185-15) on red and polish 8 spoke and it will be just right ;) Any pics of the dashboard and interior? Title: Re: 68 cabrio, eighties survivor Post by: vwcab on October 25, 2008, 20:30:13 pm Seems to be a nice project, get it ready for the Freddiefiles. ;)
Title: Re: 68 cabrio, eighties survivor Post by: lowfastbus on October 25, 2008, 20:31:15 pm it's actually hand painted and must have been alot off work... but the "theme" is kinda gay ::)
Title: Re: 68 cabrio, eighties survivor Post by: lowfastbus on October 25, 2008, 20:32:02 pm Seems to be a nice project, get it ready for the Freddiefiles. ;) that's the plan! it's allready standing in Ninove as I live there ;D Title: Re: 68 cabrio, eighties survivor Post by: roland on October 25, 2008, 20:33:15 pm if it's a 68 then the rear decklid is wrong, it's a 70 model. Ditch it (it's really ugly) and get the right one for the year...
Color coded bumpers will be ugly too imo, and red empis too.. Sorry JF, i hate 80's look... Title: Re: 68 cabrio, eighties survivor Post by: Zach Gomulka on October 25, 2008, 21:58:50 pm if it's a 68 then the rear decklid is wrong, it's a 70 model. I have to agree ::) But I don't mind the 4 vent decklid, just loose the gay air brushing! Title: Re: 68 cabrio, eighties survivor Post by: Jon on October 25, 2008, 22:06:57 pm Cool project! About that engine lid, all the rows have the same amount of louvers... I have only seen the one time before, at Spa. Can somone tell me what model they are of?
Title: Re: 68 cabrio, eighties survivor Post by: lowfastbus on October 25, 2008, 22:12:16 pm Not sure what year it is, don't have the papers yet... I have the 4-row decklid and a 2-row spare.
Bumpers will be chromed ones, and 8-spokes either black or antracite. Title: Re: 68 cabrio, eighties survivor Post by: Zach Gomulka on October 25, 2008, 22:19:53 pm Cool project! As far as I know they are 1970, maybe 1971 as well, cabrio decklids. Title: Re: 68 cabrio, eighties survivor Post by: roland on October 25, 2008, 23:01:16 pm Not sure what year it is, don't have the papers yet... I have the 4-row decklid and a 2-row spare. Title: Re: 68 cabrio, eighties survivor Post by: SlingShot on October 26, 2008, 03:54:06 am it's actually hand painted and must have been alot off work... but the "theme" is kinda gay ::) If you haven't noticed "gay" is "IN" especially here in the U.S. ::) Ask Zach, he knows . http://cal-look.no/lounge/index.php/topic,7027.msg105525.html#msg105525 Title: Re: 68 cabrio, eighties survivor Post by: j-f on October 26, 2008, 11:12:09 am if it's a 68 then the rear decklid is wrong, it's a 70 model. I'm not of a fan of 80's euro look (There is some very nice 80's cal look, but here in Europe it seems that was not a good period ::) ). But, if it is the theme of the car, I think it's a way to go ;D Title: Re: 68 cabrio, eighties survivor Post by: bugnut68 on November 07, 2008, 02:23:22 am Kind of reminds me of the red 'vert on the cover of a late '80s Bugpack catalog...;D

Painted headlight rings and indicators, or chrome ones. Imagine a chrome bumper with them. Jelle Title: Re: 68 cabrio, eighties survivor Post by: lowfastbus on November 09, 2008, 12:01:11 pm Some other stuff going on in the workshop...
see tim's thread for more pics http://cal-look.no/lounge/index.php/topic,6858.0.html (http://cal-look.no/lounge/index.php/topic,6858.0.html) Title: Re: 68 cabrio, eighties survivor Post by: roland on November 09, 2008, 13:15:22 pm Maybe no bumper at all? Just like Kris Klingaman's...
(http://cal-look.no/lounge/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=6974.0;attach=22199;image) I like the painted headlight rim but not too fond of the painted turn signal... Title: Re: 68 cabrio, eighties survivor Post by: speedwell on November 09, 2008, 13:17:45 pm and weld the hole of bumpers bracket and put the lucas at that place ;)
Title: Re: 68 cabrio, eighties survivor Post by: Olaf A./DFL on November 09, 2008, 18:58:42 pm i'd go for painted headlight rings and indicators.
and KEEP the airbrush! suits you just fine ;D ;) Title: Re: 68 cabrio, eighties survivor Post by: vwcab on November 09, 2008, 19:54:44 pm Painted headlight rings and indicators and NO bumper. ;)

Title: Re: 68 cabrio, eighties survivor Post by: kev d on November 12, 2008, 00:36:30 am Chrome bumper with integral indicators 8)
Loose the wing lumps! Title: Re: 68 cabrio, eighties survivor Post by: lowfastbus on November 16, 2008, 20:05:03 pm I put in a motor for running around the first months, ride height is now acceptabel.
Also removed the rear bumper, and I think it will remain bumperless 8) Notice the (badly) filled exhaust cut outs, holes from badges etc... If anyone has a lead for some cheap baby turbo mirrors, let me know! Jelle Title: Re: 68 cabrio, eighties survivor Post by: lowfastbus on November 23, 2008, 11:46:50 am Since the first snow fell yesterday, we thought it was a good idea to start and put some doors on the workshop.
