Title: 1953-57 Lookers
Post by: lawrence on October 31, 2008, 04:22:57 am
There is a thread about '67s, so lets see some killer ovals.

That blue oval is badass!! Mine is below that.

Cool wheels. I had the same ones for a few years.

Half an oval, eh pat? You should cut that silly post from the rear window, though. ;D

HAHA!!

Pretty Split, too. Splits were made till halfway through 1953, so they're (in theory) allowed in this thread, yes?

I am a little biased toward this car BUT it is one of my all time favorite ovals (1957). It belongs to my good friend Allen and I did the majority of the work building it around 1999 (I think). It has had several different drive lines over the years (I know,.... I have installed them!) It was an Agave green with optional red leatherette interior car and we kept it that way. It now has the Flat 4 Ansen copies on it but has had polished Empi's and BRM's (Flat 4) at other points in its "career". It has a VERY healthy "Ohio" Tom Simpson built 2110 with reworked CB CNC oval ports an FK (was an 86B for years) series cam. It also has an "Ohio Tom" close gearbox, so it really flies. This car is like one of my babies that never really leaves home, since I still do all of the maintanance..LOL  I like it best with its current engine and wheels but I wish he would put his DOT's back on for a more racey look. It is a real street car that gets driven VERY hard on a nice weather daily basis.

WOW thats saying alot with a name like 67 worshipper !  ;D

BUT..... I will have to agree. As far as I am concerned nothing looks better than an oval.  8)  They are just spot on. The smaller windows all around ,the simple dash & W-decklid.Just scream for the Cal-look treatment!

Now... if we could just find an easier way to stuff big 2 liters in there without cutting things up. :-\

more pictures of it please ;)

I agree Allen's car is one of my favorite ovals as well.  Sadly I can't seem to get a pic of it that does it complete justice...in person it has THE LOOK.  And like Mike says, it gets driven hard.

It's all CB stuff. Their 2" narrowed beam, dropped spindles, and wide five discs. It all works very well too.

Nice pics, Rob!  I'd forgotten about Geoff's checkerboard nose bra but not the smokey burnouts (Knowlwood's parking lot a few years back ;)).  Brad's Rusto is TITS 8) 8) 8) but those 12 spokes scream major maintenance!  Speaking of maintenance, I like Allen's green oval, too... except for the rusty exhaust pipe.  I know it's about rain / snow back east, but there's an easy fix and it doesn't involve paint or fancy coatings.  All you have to do is wipe the pipes down with an oily rag  and run the car a few blocks to burn off the oil then repeat the process on a weekly basis.... soon the pipes will turn a nice black color and will stay that way if you keep after them.  Works best on new headers.  Best of all, it doesn't cost anything!

Sarge, do you know Allen???  That's almost right up his alley!  Except he'll probably try to get Maize to do it for him.   :D

Sarge, that is EXACTLY the kind of stuff I love to learn about! Will that work on the primaries on my Berg header on my 67, because I cant keep paint on it and I don't want ceramic on that car either. Funniest thing about Allens exhaust is that he owns an auto detailing bussiness! Sooo I refuse to detail his exhaust for him when I have the car apart...it has become a runnig joke between us. I told him he has recieved world wide scorn for not fixing it ;D He said he doesn't care because it makes the car look "driven".

What the heck I might as well do THAT too...I still have to do his mid-mount and traction bar that are sitting in my garage. ::)

No problem on the primaries, Mike... best to use some new oil rather then the dump bucket stuff, too.  "Driven" cars usually show their scars on the front end, not the back ;)

Ahh Knowlwood's. The burnout count has been going down for some years now. Don't think I saw any last year. Just a toilet paper and saran wrapped rental  ;)

Hey guys!

Thanks! Nope, they are not before and after, one is the bug I use the other is my long term project which I must have had 12 years now, but am kicking off again.

I will gather some pics and start a thread in the "IN DA WORKS" section.

It would be great to get some feedback on a few bits too if thats cool?, as I literally started with just a shell & doors  ???

Thanks,

James

what size of tyres are on the front?
i can read Eagle and Goodyear...but not the size...
it seems 175..but more higher than 175/55 (and i think that goodyear don't produce 175/55)
the design is the same of the NCT5 model...and i know exist 185/60 r15...but it seems tighter... ???
