Do a Berg five-speed version, too.

I'm not very fond of that design.  It looks too "street rod" billet-y in my opinion.  But hey, that's all it is, an opinion, right? ;D

How could you not like it, it's EXTREME!!!  Probably ICONIC too.  Maybe even SANO!

I have a Vintage Speed roof rack on my Karmann Ghia, the quality is very high and the guy is nice to deal with.
Dont think this shifter is realy the right kind of look for us Cal lookers, but would look sweet in a rod styled bug.
Anyway its nice to see something new and different ;)

It´s nice to see new good quality products on the market. Not very cal-look though.
Bet the german look guys will love it.

I like it, I would paint the shift knob white though. It would work in the right car.

I like it. I would loose the rifling holes, polish the handle add a boot to the bottom. Nice spot on top of the reverse lockout lever for line lock. Looks like a quality product, but unless I had one to trial run in the Notch,...I will have to go on guessing. I like seeing new products for our hobby pop up, keeps the love alive.

I met this guy at EBI and saw all his products in person, and I honestly don't know if there is a nicer quality product available in the vw scene- everything this guy makes is TOP NOTCH!!!  The prices are a little high, but realistically there isn't anything avaliable that you can really compare his products to, so it's kind of a moot point.

As far as aesthetics, would everybody be happier if he just made another Berg/Bugpack/Hurst/Empi copy?  Keep in mind, some people out there actually like the look of the Empi Eliminator shifter... :o

Yeah, they look great in a Chevelle or Hemi Cuda.

But I still like the shifter....

it seems most of their products have holes drilled in them, its probably really cheap in Taiwan for that kind of work :)

Hi all, I am the proprietor of a new UK based, performance parts company that will officially hit the scene in the New Year. We are the UK dealers for Vintage Speed and have the majority of the range in stock at the moment, including this awesome shifter!

I agree it is not entirely Cal-Look and will not be to everyone’s tastes, but it is still an amazing piece of kit and something new and different to the scene. Just wanted to inform you all that it can be anodised black or to most other colours that you may require and I am sure, as like his other items can be ordered without the ‘Swiss cheese’, weight saving holes.  ;)

An example of some of the other Vintage Speed items that we stock are:
>68 Engine Lid stand offs at £18
Stainless steel Fuel Tank Clamps at £21
Stainless Steel Tacho Mounts for 3 3/8 size and Monster tachometer for LHD and RHD at £15 and £18.
Stainless Steel Front Licence Plate brackets at £23.
Roof Racks (for all you true die hard Cal-Look fans… ;)) for Type 1 Beetles and Karmann Ghias at £290

I hope you all agree that they are not unfairly priced.  ;D

Our website will hopefully be up and running in the next 3 weeks so keep an eye on WWW.PROWAGEN.COM for other brands we stock.

If you would like any information on any of the items now, PM myself or ‘Prowagen’ on here or alternatively email sales@prowagen.com

Cheers guys and sorry for the hijack of the thread Keith.. and glad you like the shifter…! ;D

Lawrence.

The reverse lock-out is in the way of where you would put the line lock button.

Not that i use mine any way. :D

You could always fit a compact cylindrical switch in the top hole of the shifter.... ;D

If that company only would make their headers in a bigger size and with a free flowing muffler.

Good to see the new shifter is getting a bit of thought provoking going! As Larry said Prowagen Per4mance are stocking Vintage Speed items now! We are really proud to be offering these products as they are extremly high quality and not what you would normally expect from Taiwanese parts! Ming-Tang Lee has a real thorough quality checking and testing program and all items are made in his company, he performs all the TIG welding, no farming out to cheap factories!
Also he is one of the nicest guys I have ever met in the scene, come say Hi to him at our trade stands in 2009.

Cheers,
Rob.

Do you have his exhaust system in stock?

And how would you describe the quality? M.T. Lee told me he have a 1 3/4" version as well and that would be interesting, especially with a high flowing, twin tip muffler.

Title: Re: Interesting new shifter...
Post by: Prowagen on November 10, 2008, 15:47:06 pm
The quality is fantastic, the welding is second to none, it will take a little while for bigger bore systems to be available as it takes 16 hours of welding per exhaust! And Ming-Tang is a perfectionist, he wil not release it for general sale until it is right!

If you want to talk more feel free to PM or mail me, as we will end up wondering off topic :)

Cheers,
Rob.

Nice looking muffler, but does it come plain SS, not polished?

I like the shifters mechanical design, to bad it looks a bit too much "ricer" in my eyes.

Jim most things are possible as he makes it all, so we have had some custom stuff made in the past, including a nice exhaust system for a customers 66 split screen van.

I will see what I can find out regarding Raw SS muffler.

Regards,
Rob.

jim, remember you welded up your rear valance? ;)

Title: Re: Interesting new shifter...
Post by: Prowagen on November 11, 2008, 16:47:54 pm
Hello Jim,
Raw muffler and/or header not a problems, header is sand blasted as standard as this lowers the temprature dramatically.

If you need any more info or have any other questions on products please PM or mail us.

Cheers,
Rob.

I just hate, hate, hate the "billet look". Billet has it's place (crankshafts, ect) but not with shifters, hood hinges, and the like.
