got my 4 point simpson harnesses today
the guy before used the stock mounting points, the tunnel and pan for all 4 straps
but i would like something a bit safer?

what about those 4 point show cages? i'm after something like that, but with a bar across to mount the upper straps.
any ideas?

Lap straps go to the tunnel and the bottom of the B-post (standard mounting point) and on cars without cages you're best to take the straps down through the rear seat, between the base and back. Drill the holes into the body and use 25x3mm flat bar (minimum) either side to spread the load.

Seat belt location depends on where you normally sit. You need to achieve a 45 degree angle from the lap belt down to the mounting point (as per Simpson's instructions). So, the B-pillar and center tunnel mount may not be in the correct location, depending on where your seat is adjusted. I covered all this in the floorpan series in a '07 issue(s) of HVWs.

I was thinking to mount the upper strap (I will be using a Y harness) to the upper standard backseat seat belt hole in the C-pillar. The belt would sit a bit crooked to the outside, but on the other hand the angle of the upper strap would not be to sharp. I've seen recomendations to have this strap not going down in an angle steeper than 10°.

I personally do not think this would be a good idea. In the remote chance of a rollover, having that upper strap mounted way off to the left would tend to jerk your upper body that way as well. Not a good idea when your lower body is square in the seat. The idea is to keep your entire body firmly in the seat during a problem. Go to Simpson Safety's web site for mounting specs.
