Title: Steering Wheels
Post by: johnl on November 26, 2008, 17:36:22 pm
In reviewing recent topics I discovered a photo of what I believe to be a "Butler" wheel.  Years ago when I worked at Auto Haus (Rosevear Ent.) we got a small shipment of these wheels in.  I was in the process of doing my original car for the last time and thought this was the nicest wheel I'd seen.

I've had conversations with Kieth Sueme about this but he doesn't seem to know of the company or their history.  Is there anyone out there who can shed any light on this wheel?

I'd sure like to find another for a "future project", maybe not that far in the future.  I hope the photo comes through.(http://)

hey did some searches myself and maybe it is a company that is called butler built.
it seems to be an american company, but the steeringwheels they offer look different and certainly have a different hubsize now.
but the wheel does look nice...

hope this helps a bit

I've sent an e-mail off to the site Nicolas provided and looked at the Speedwell offering as well.  Villiam B. Haan and M. G. Mitten were two of the early providers for sport car accessories back in the day, howerver I don't think Haan had anything to do with this wheel.

My first car cover was purchased directly from Marion Weber, owner of Mitten located in Pasadena, California.  Cost was about $24.95 as I recall which was huge money for a 17 year old making $1.57 per hour bagging groceries!!

Butler Built are sprint car / stock car people, a friend who races Formula 2 Brisca Stock Cars uses them. Don't know if they are anything to do with the wheel you posted though John! ???
