So, things to do:

Switch torsion bars from 21 mm to 24 mm (tonite) Done
Install aluminum doorpanels done by Cedric "Black Hands" Demoulin (This guy is an artist !)
Fabricate new seatbrackets.Done
Redo rear "luggage" panel.
Replace all gold countersunk-washers for black ones.Done
Wire up the lambda and Edelbrock Fuel/Air device.
Repaint/powdercoat gastank.
Install new painted fenders and decklid.MMM Almost Done
Make new carb-inspection covers.
Dzusing Rear End.Done
One more break-in run, set ignition, synch carbs, check valves (the third time).
Clean and detail.

Harry, I like what you ve done to make the typ4 cooler fit.
could you show me some pictures on how you modified the air ducting over the typ 4 cooler
and the air ducting out of the enginecompartment.

Hi Ed, if you already did the "box" around the cooler, that's the hardest part. The "duct" that leads
to the bottom part of the shroud needs minimal widening. It would be very nice if you or somebody
could tig weld it. The bottom part can stay original with maybe a rubber over it to seal things off.
In the past i made this part flowing out like a funnel, then add a heater hose on it, long enough to
get vacuumed out of your driving "wind" under the car.

New rear Heavier Torsion Bars in. Took me 4 attempts, but thanks to Richie.uk and BeetleBug inputs i
got it all sorted out and learned a lot. Maybe i should went for even thicker bars but time will tell.
It's still a street car.

Some crap i did tonite, didn't like the u-bend for the exhaust so made a new one.

Welded up the holes for my bullet mirror...I just hate it when you have to
work on one door for a whole week to pay for mistakes one made in his life.
Part of growing up i guess...

Any suggestions about a bolt on/thru mirror ?
The Mooneyes stuff is to classic for a late car.

Well that's a fair explanation!  :D

For the '73 in the end we went full circle and came back to stock mirrors for a number of reasons. The only other thing I can think of is a door hinge mounted one, they're a bit smaller.  :)

Next project. Thinking of a solution for years, SteveW's project shows. I hope you don't mind, stealing youre idea Steve.

as i dont often use my mirrors , i'm thinking of replacing my side mirror with a small electric fan .
handy for keeping cool in summer , plus can be directed to blow ash away from the car when smoking and driving .

After a lot of modification, this one is 4" higher and in the proper position. 2 Weeks of messing, just for the stupid mirror. At least i don't need a peroscope no more..
And changed the Bright Trim for Black. (Tx Mr. Pedrini !)

I'm messing with  step drills, wish i could punch some parts for looks and STRENGTH.
(But hey it's a street car... But that's a cheap excuse,. Once the KG is done i would
like to raise the bar on the Bug, maybe we can talk someday and you can widen my horizon. One
can have not too many holes and Skulls in it's car ;D)

After years of pushing this descision, i did it... It will change my life. 2.5 TDI. Have to make a complete
back interiour which is fun to do. Except for ripping out the old shit and powerwash the rear.

Just shitty stuff. The fender "holder/skeletons" are thin like paper (damn repro stuff). It was a bitch (bending)
to sand and paint them. The powdercoater didn't want to  blast them.
Apron in first steel bondo.

Paint for all fenders, decklid and apron is perfect. BUT this **** used black primer. Instead of redoing
the whole thing $$$,  i will have 2 decals for the doors made.

Dad is OK, Thank God.  Jim, JeePee, Sarge and UD pushed Figment. So it's time to move on. Today i finally started working on the Jubi again. Made new inspection covers, loosely installed the Dzused fenders since i would like to install the (thicker Mercedes) beading...(5 mill).
I'm still waiting on the apron to be painted but it's just to cold to do that in a garage. I'm using the
Geers Oil Filter as a gas filter, just changed the original o-ring for a viton.
I used my old rear engine cover as a template for a new one, this time however i will fabricate some
heat deflectors on the underside of the white dots (pic).

Plus i have a pesky sparkplug in my house.....

Mickey Thompson's are finally in.
10 MM Spacers are for front Erco's to clear brake calipers.

Geers filter for fuel, Sam in a constant coma, Rain, rain, rain. That sparkplug makes me scared shitless...

Back to work. PS. If one has to order spacers for Erco's up front, go for 20 mm instead of 10mm. The balancing lead on the inside of the wheels will not clear the calipers...

No painting or powdercoating, as soon as i had the tyres on and mounted them i had that gut-feeling that they looked good with the Zinngrau paint. (even if 4 bolt). I will polish them one more time. Me like, and now finish the damn thing.

Hi Guys, I'm seriously considering switching over to CSP Porsche cooling system, (aluminum case = heat). But i would like to keep my MSD distributor. Does the shroud leave space enough ? I don't want to hack/grind in the new shroud.
Any comments are appreciated. Maybe Gunter could comment on this also.

Seems that "porsche style" cooling system is one of the less efficient, so why would you want to switch to that?

I agree with Roland as it seems that the original cooling system on type 1 is better than a porsche style.

Thanks Guys, i think the Porsche style system is blowing over the entire block/case, thus moving a lot of engine-heat away.
Let me know if i'm wrong.

Well to me the engine case is not the hot part to be cooled down.. and it's not finned, so even if it's being blown with air I doubt it makes any difference..

Gotta get most of the air on cylinders & heads, that's what needs cooling...

Just what I have, with alu case too, for my 2110. With decklid opened at the top, doesn't heat, even on highways...

yep same here, alu case, 2179cc, 10/1 compression, power pulley (so slower fan speed) and with a small external oil cooler, doesn't heat, even runs too cool sometimes.
But I have to say, all the tin is new and steve spend hours on fitting the tin like it should be on my engine...  guess that helps for a perfect cooling setup.  :)
