Title: story of Bad Company modified compact Post by: Jim Ratto on December 02, 2008, 22:46:58 pm One of, if not my favorite VW race car of all time. Was it once a hot street car that progressed into a drag sedan or? When was it first raced and last raced?
I know the 1977 issue of Hot VW's listed the car ran various engines, was this adjusted with ballast too, to keep legal? Thanks for any stories, Jim Title: Re: story of Bad Company modified compact Post by: gibber! on December 03, 2008, 03:30:49 am .... I think I'll pull up a chair and wait patiently for the replies!
The cover shot on Hot VWs is just perfect! Title: Re: story of Bad Company modified compact Post by: Neil Davies on December 03, 2008, 10:44:54 am I'm sure KS said it's still racing, just not as we know it. C'mon Keith, which car is it?! :D
Title: Re: story of Bad Company modified compact Post by: Taylor on December 03, 2008, 11:33:09 am roger has told me a ton of stories about that car. He ran it in SS/CC 16.5 lbs per in. and SS/BC 15.5 lbs per in. It had a 1800cc engine 74x88 and I think it ran 11.80 at 110-111
Roger has the doors, The engine is still around and the car is primered white or grey and has a fiberglass front end on it now. Also I think there is a picture of the car in the NHRA rule book about '78-'79 in the modified compact section. Title: Re: story of Bad Company modified compact Post by: nicolas on December 03, 2008, 14:49:31 pm i like that car as well and i have been able to contact the owner off the engine a while back and it seems like that engine is still used today.
i don't want to say who owns it, but i think i can post the specs off the engine... Some engine specs.: 1,810cc; 78.4 Okrasa crank destroked to 74.4; empi 88mm slipper skirt pistons with biral cylinders; Jet titanium connecting rods; custom Babe Erson roller cam in VW block; hand made 1 5/8 inch header by Chas Morse; modified 48mm IDA weber carbs; heavily modified/welded VW dual port heads with titanium valves, retainers and triple valve springs. Horsepower well over 200. Engine runs flawlessly and comes to life over 7,500rpm. ;) Title: Re: story of Bad Company modified compact Post by: speedwell on December 03, 2008, 15:56:13 pm i remember a guy from hawaî , it's gino c , he's on the lounge ,he send me a mail about some car i 'had post on my blog , and in the mail he said he's a friend of roger and own the original motor from the bad company , he want to return the engine to roger like a present 8) 8)

Title: Re: story of Bad Company modified compact Post by: deano on December 05, 2008, 18:00:36 pm I recall seeing the old Bad Company '67 at JCL, about six-to-eight years ago, being updated. It was still (sorta) green at that stage, just a gutted shell, but I understand all the green paint is now gone. That photo of Roger and Bill at the Bug In is my photo by the way (with the big OCIR tower in the background).
Now, do you know why Roger's car is pointed in the direction it is for the HVWs cover shot? For those who attended OCIR, you will know that is is pointed backwards on the track (which is going right into the back fence). But why??? Title: Re: story of Bad Company modified compact Post by: speedwell on December 05, 2008, 18:15:43 pm roger said to methis year at rbi2 , that you asked roger for the shooting but the car doesn't run , and You put a jack below the car to feign a wheeling and put a smoke to make the burn out aspect ;D ;D but i don't know why the picture was taken in the reverse of the track

Title: Re: story of Bad Company modified compact Post by: deano on December 06, 2008, 15:31:54 pm APRIL FOOLS! Look at the issue date. Yes, that has been mentioned to Rog before. But there was a "mechanical" reason for the direction of the car.... Title: Re: story of Bad Company modified compact Post by: danny gabbard on December 06, 2008, 17:28:50 pm somebody put the ring gear in backwards and had 4 reverse gears?

Title: Re: story of Bad Company modified compact Post by: Jim Ratto on December 06, 2008, 23:08:33 pm What's the difference on the caps aside from the color? They look like they fit "over" the wheel instead of inside. ?

you have aroused my interest..... how you can choose between them is beyond me please share are you a cal looker or a gasser man ? For me, i couldnt choose between them they are two completely different styles, however, if both were for sale today and at the same price and i could only afford one, I would buys Daves car first, as i would be confident less people would chase for Rogers car as they either want to build there own race car or have a modern one, so hopefully it would still be for sale the next day then when I got paid for that day i would buy it (richie, youll get this) ;D ;D ;D Title: Re: story of Bad Company modified compact Post by: Lee.C on December 08, 2008, 01:03:25 am Lee you have aroused my interest..... how you can choose between them is beyond me please share are you a cal looker or a gasser man ?
