Title: Bearings?
Post by: Jesse/DVK on December 05, 2008, 21:46:39 pm
Ok guys, I've come to the part to order bearings for my new engine (1915 K8, IDA). Now I would like to know which brand I should choose for the mains, rods and cam. Should I go for dual thrust cam bearings (breaking off issues??) of normal ones?

Thanks!

Jesse

Mahle or Kolbenschmidt are both very high quality bearings. Never seen a problem with either,
Metal Leve I did, once.

For cam bearings, if you run straight cut gears, you don't "have" to run double thrust bearings, but really no reason no to either. For cam bearings I prefer Glyco 025 198 541, which is the wasserboxer bearing set. Make sure you hand fit the thrust bearings to thrust surfaces of cam. If not, you will find the cam too tight in bearings (you should have .001-.002" end clearance).

Have fun and good luck with your 1914, K8, IDA motor.... one of my favorite combinations.
