At EBI#2 went I spook to Dave, he tool me he want repaint his Car ...
But, that's maybe a fake from him ( I don't think soo ).

I do hope so.... this classic cal look VW needs a new top coat and great choice for the place to paint it.

I will say though my personal favourite picture of Dave's 64 is on page 68 of Stephan Szantai's book with Mr Webb driving and it looks like its just been dragged out of a barn where it was stored in 1975  ;D Now when I told Dave this his exact words were:

"Ah man it looks like a piece of crap in that one!" and I saw his point, I mean aren't "Cal Lookers" ment to have a "Super neat one-colour custom paint job" :-\ ;) :)

I think the one in that shot is the 'fake' one, it often gets confused with the one from way back. It was actually the replica one that was photographed parked up next to Schwimmers car and a couple of others on that magazine cover a few years back and obvioously this has only added to the confusion. I heard the original is now blue?

I had no idea you had it, all I heard was that it was under a cover gathering dust! Maybe there's a load of them?

Out of interest does anyone have a scan handy of the 'replica' on the magazine cover next to Bill's car and a couple of others back in the early 90s? It's a cool shot.

The photo I'm talking about is the magazine cover shot of the cars lined up together over in the States around the time DKP III was coming together, it's a great shot of some cool cars.

he got too lazy to polish them so it seemed the easiest thing to do :o ;) :D

along with the fenders being taken off to be modified with flares.

it is all about that form following function idea we all base our cars around.







and to be honest i liked the replica car better. it had that special 'it'.

Someone built a replica of Daves car?

Can one make a replica just by painting the original? Or isn't that done anymore?

and for me dave never had some dkp stickers on the car only DRF ???

No the fact is Daves car is a copy of the real one, the real Dave Rhoads car is located in Aberdeen Scotland, i cant beleive you didnt know this Fabs ???? everone else knows.  ;D

Dave said the new off white paint is just right. He sent me some photos, and I have to agree with him.

Ummm,actually thats yellow not off white!!!!

Off white ,meaning not quite white. I realize there is alot of yellow mixed in it. So, it could be called a light yellow, or an off white , that was mixed down with yellow.

the paint does look good, but looking at the car like this, i see very little resemblance to Dave Rhoads car. there are some essential trademarks missing.

such as? i think the unique padded dash speaks for itself...

such as: wheels, stance, perfection...  ;)

the dash is a good reassurance that it is indeed 'that' car. otherwise this could be 'any' nicely painted car IMHO. if you see what i mean.

I already offered,   I can't wait to see that car looking great again like it should.

I liked it as it was afterall the paint job had been around a few years but the new paint definitely adds something to it. It's going to look as great running 12.40s as it will parked outside Hooters.
