Title: Tyres: what are my chances?
Post by: nigelg65 on January 09, 2009, 19:32:54 pm
What are my chances of getting 215/65x15 radials on the back of my oval, mounted on 15x7s?

That's what the chop-top had. Running Fuchs with redrilled drums and an 8mm spacer...

Ahhhhhh right, that is very good news. So I've got every chance of getting them to fit.

Cheers K that's made my day.

There's more than enough space for a  215 tire on a 7" rim inside the fender, it all depends on the offset/backspace of your wheels.

Ahhhhh this is where it gets a bit more complicated.

I have a pair of 15x7 American Racing five-spokes (backspacing about 5 inches) and a pair of 15x7 Ansen slot mags (backspacing 3.6in appox) and I want to be able to swap between them to change the look of the car.

I run a 205/70  on a short axle, 5.5" rim with a 42mm offset with about 20mm clearance on the spring plate, whatevere that equates to in backspace terms ;D

a 7.5" rim is 178mm wide so the tyre should sit inside the confines of the rim, if the wheel doesn't hit the spring plate you should be good to go ;D

You will be fine with the Americans, but I doubt if the Ansens will tuck inside the fender :-\

Would the same tyre fit on a 6" erco?

Still depends on the backspace, but your chances are better ;)

with the right offset/axle length you can get away with something a little wider ;D

245/65 on a 5.5" rim, Long axle,45mm offset ;D

only put it on a spare rim for the photo but there was 1/4" clearance on the spring plate ;D

Oh, that gets the old grey matter working. Still need to find a way to swap between my Ansens and my Americans though.

Make the Ansens fit, then figure out what it will take to get the Americans on. With such little backspace you are going to need short axles and brakes (drum) with as little offset as possible. So when you bolt up the Americans you may just need a spacer. Can you machine the backsides of the Ansens down to increase backspace?
