I think its gonna be a bit of a "Marmite" dash a bit like my colour choice - you'll either LOVE it or HATE it  ;)

We kinda felt bad breaking out the air tools. His dash was pretty much un-molested except for the left side of the speedo where some gauges had been in one of those aftermarket panels. Even the radio hole was perfect, block-off plate tabs too! :o It is starting to shape up quite nicely though. It will be quite the opposite of yours, simple and clean, less is more approach :)

Just for something a little different, what do you think of taking a Nardi wheel and painting the rim a deep black lacquer? It seems everyone has a wood steering wheel these days.

I feel you on this notion, Louis. I have a wood wheel and I am thinking about changing it. Nardi sells leather rapped wheels with a few different spoke options. They look killer.

I'd like to see more pics from different angles of the EMPI padded dash topper. I have one to be installed into my 67.....
It seems that when I see these installed, the HL & wiper switches are very close to the pad. Almost looks crowded. Is this a poor install of the pad, or is that just the way it is?

I have a '72 that is exactly the same as yours.  I have 5 ugly ventholes in total and the empi dashpad covers them all!  It fits well, so I guess there is absolutely no difference is a 66 or 72 dashboard...  go for it!  ;D

I like the tachometer mount that you have on your car.  I like how it mounts to the dash through what used to be the brake warning light hole and also has the tach. wires running through it.  Did you fab that yourself?  I thought about making something similar to that, very nice.

Thanks Jeff68, Yes I fabed it with the help of Mark V. at Berg's. The wire's don't go through the mount but down through the vent hole, used shrink tubing too try to make it neat. I did make one a long time ago with an access hole for the wire's but never used it, I think I had made it too short. I didn't want to make any holes anywhere so thats why I used the brake warning light hole. Worked very well! The back of the tach rest against the dash to make it stable.  ;D

lee, according to the vw and porsche feature mike had a perforated tan vinyl headliner (obviously that goes for the visors as well)
though, if you were to order one from TMI it looks like an adhesive plaster ...

gotta LOVE that interior though :)

Here is a shot of my Cal Look dash in 1977, shortly after finishing my car. It was intended to be one of a kind, wild and crazy. It had a full set of OPEL GT gauges, plus a cassette, AM/FM.  I fabricated the dash out of wood, upholstered it and then installed it using all VDO sending units from the OPEL GT.  Had to make a few adapters but they worked great.

A shot of my 67 is pictured, with my RICANN personalized plate. It was our newlywed Friday night cruiser.

Zak,

You guys need to straighten the TACH. It is set in there sideways. :-)

Because who cares about looking at the rev counter at idle? It is more important to have a clear view where it matters. Function before beauty - as always!

Unfortunately, when AssHull wired it up he forgot to leave the wires a little long so we can turn in sideways. Now has to be straight :-\

you can sort that easily enough ...
either extend the wires , or have a new dial face made with redline at the top and the needle reset .
i have had this done in the past , miles better than just rotating it ;)
