I would like to have a go with it put some fuchs under it and drop the nose just a bit but I don't think it is the right thing to do right now with the credit crunch and my last savings.

I don't know about cal-looking it, but it would certainly look hot with a nice set of detailed fuchs, a hot IDA engine and a 5 speed gearbox...

Thought my reply would promt a reaction.  ;)

Roland !!!!!

You gave me a hard time over turning a run of the mill 64 bug into a race car....

This is worse ! this car should only be restored to its former glory No cal look no race car and no rat look... original all the way.

Ah come on, I gave you a hard time? Dude you've got nothing close to a hard time from me ;) Just a tiny comment, wasn't meant to offence you or anything..

As for this car, 1st it's RHD so it's useless. You'd have to transform it to LHD.  ;D Then a hot engine and wheels is nothing you can't bolt off a car. But sometimes my logic is twisted, true...

Q: who's got the balls to cal look this?

That was done years ago... remember seeing pics in Volksworld of a R-looker owned by a Porn star out of Austria.

how much does it weigh?

would make a good turbo car if its not to light ;)
But it would need a chassis under it,no need for that nasty old pan :o

cheers richie

This poor Beetle cannot be restored to its former glory. It's beyond repair, because some old tuning company called Rometsch butchered it back in the fifties  :'(  ;D :P
Seriously - I know that Rometschs are rare, but personally I would not trade a nice 64 Bug for this ugly thing.

Good Lord, John. Ya know... nevermind.

Back on topic; Fabian, find a better picture of a nice stock one then PhotoShop some Fuchs or BRM wheels on it.

Nice one! Fooled me.

You'll have to forgive my friend, he's a little slow!!! :D

I'd cal look an early one. The late ones look a bit too "fat". Although that black one with the Kustom theme works quite nicely, I believe :)

Not me... I'm still pissed about the now-diarrhea green Papler in Florida (used to be a '50s era German fire car, though it was a police car originally, or so I'm told) slammed in the weeds resto-custom style... I'm not too fond of the Hebmuller that was turned into a race car, either.

But hey, to each their own, I reckon.

Do they ALL have to be 100% restored to their former glory? I mean, once you've seen one restored Heb, you've pretty much seen them all...

If you are talking about BBT´s Heb, there was really very very very little original metal left of it, and would have been a close to impossible restoration.

The RHD Rometsch sat in my workshop for nearly a year. The plan was going to be to do all of the aluminium bodywork and then polish it. It was then going to be slammed and driven to Bad Camberg... The credit crunch has put paid to this idea... I wonder if it will be bought and fully restored? Matt Keene

Why does everything have to be "restored" to showroom condition...? It takes balls not to restore these cars...

If you are talking about BBT´s Heb, there was really very very very little original metal left of it, and would have been a close to impossible restoration.

I have no idea whose car it was, I just remember seeing the thread.  It's a different situation when there's little original metal left, I think.  The Papler bugged me just because it was a complete car turned into something very ordinary.

I'm not a total purist by any stretch, but some cars, IMO, are just cooler in their original or more historical form.  To me, a slammed, RV-style narrowed front end and broken-axle slammed resto-custom are a dime a dozen, whereas a fire car with old paint and historical significance are not.  That's just me, though.  I saw the Papler at Competition Engineering in '94 when I was 17 and was floored by it.  Now it's just a resto-custom that was, by all appearances, built just to piss people off.  And, judging by the Samba thread from a few years ago, the owner succeeded.

My opinions are only opinions, and by no means a jab or insult to any owners, as I've never met the owner of the drag Heb nor the current owner of the Papler.

Fabian, you ROCK!

Okay... get rid of those tires and whatever kind of wheels those are. Fix the broken axles out back and get the camber back to proper. Slightly bring the nose down, add some unpolished late Fuchs 911 alloys (late 6" will do), and add a 901 transmission & a big engine with 48IDAs. Of course, have A-1 Muffler fab up something killer in the exhaust department.
