Title: porsche 356b rear drum help needed please... Post by: jick on January 22, 2009, 19:13:52 pm so i've got the rear end all together on the '59 but when i tighten the rear hub nut the drum tightens up too and wont turn....i'm sure i've read somewhere about needing a spacer......does anyone have any direct experience of this? whats the deal?
also the outer ends on my short axles sit just shy of the outer face of the hub nut......do i need to machine the outer snout part of the drum....about 8mm? thanks for any assistance! jick Title: Re: porsche 356b rear drum help needed please... Post by: Donny B. on January 22, 2009, 20:01:19 pm What bearing retainer are you using. Is it like those on ovals with the bearing open? If you use the bearing retainer from the later cars then the drum will come in contact with the retainer and not turn. I had that issue on my '66 and had to replace mine with oval bearing retainers. I don't know if the '59 is the same as the earlier ones or not, but that is a place to look.
