Mine are in the garage waiting to be put on as soon as my car is painted!

Funny how t-bars actually were put on VWs to be legal in California. Now we put them on for looks although they are illegal to run in many countries....

I have made some t-bars of stainless steel. Fits great to my ride.
If someone else want t-bars like this, it's possible for me to make some.
Looks good, and not to wide.

I used since 2 weeks alu t-bars now and I never used license plate up front !
True cal-lookers never use front license plate ... you should know that Georg.

Cheers, Dokke

I usually keep my front plate on the window defroster vent when on the street to keep the police at least partly happy... The hide it in the glove compartment  ::)

My girlfriend Tessa got a ticket last year for driving without the front registration plate >:(.

To prevent more tickets in the future, we made a simple 90 degree bracket on the side of each t- bar. I guess it was about 3-4 mm thick and they fit inside the gasket together with the t-bar. That way the registration plate is located between the t-bars.

I prefer running without the plate in front. Plates ruin the whole look :'(

Baboon,
the same happened to me here in Switzerland about 1 hour after having mounted the T-Bars on my 55: ticket for about 40 Euro. That was bad luck, I didn't even have a bigger engine! What I learned from this event is following: T-Bars for show, No T-Bars to be quicker, Bumpers to make a big engine more "anonimous" when driving around.
Cheers
Jose

That`s one of the reasons I`m running WITH bumpers.....  :-\

Hi Baboon-
Great car!
I especially like the colour of it! What is it? An "official" VW colour or something like "glossy Nato olive"?

Georg, 55-56  buss Color.

Title: Re: T-Bars or not?
Post by: Gregor/DFL on April 07, 2006, 19:29:28 pm
Thanks! Is there a special "name" or code for the colour?

Btw:
I am Gregor, not Georg  ;)
I know, the two names are quiet similar...

The color code is: L-312, Palm Green.
The picture is of a 1958 T-2, but the color was available from 1955-58 on T-2`s only.

That's a nice idea for the license plate, I might try that too...

BTW, Baboon, how much is the front beam narrowed on that car?

Title: Re: T-Bars or not?
Post by: BABOON on April 10, 2006, 22:36:20 pm
Well, to get those Cal-Parts nicely under the front wings the beam had to be narrowed 10 cm (4 inches). 145`s up front. Those wheels must be for buggies ;D ;D

Well i used to sport 'em, until i found that just about "everyone" did. So, why not dare to be a little bit different, bend a few "rules" and see if you're still accepted, still cal-look, so now i run a b-bar in the ass, and a single nerf up front for towing, just in case. Didn't like the look of those alu-things.
