I'm looking into maybe offering some carbon fiber style coating. It's a hydro filmed finish that looks like CF, that can be applied to most surfaces. Just testing the waters to see if there is any interst in this stuff and would like your opinions. See attached pic of a center console I just did in my 996 Porsche. Thanks! :D :D ;D ;) Title: Re: Carbon Fiber look Post by: jamiep_jamiep on January 27, 2009, 09:47:35 am Joking aside, it does look like its been done well, but I have a basic problem with a product like this - it apes something that is designed to reduce weight (and hence increase performance) by actually ADDING the weight of the film (albeit probably a small amount) on top of the original part, instead of actually having a CF part to reduce weight.
just my opinion. What do I know, I run repro BRM's that probably weigh more than a years production run of this film! :D But as I said, it DOES look well done! Late model bumpers, headlight rings, handles, side trim etc. There was a beautiful '72 featured in Volksworld last year built by James Wooton from O/FF for a customer with plenty of carbon bits - not the type of car I would build, but I'd certainly envy the owner!

Title: Re: Carbon Fiber look Post by: edcraig on January 27, 2009, 18:04:33 pm It's coating that could be used whereever you might powdercoat or paint a surface, just in this case you can apply a multitoned/pattered finish like carbon fiber. Other designs are available. I agree that the air cooled VW works might not be the best application for it, but having said that, There might be some applications for it. (fan shrouds...etc).
