Title: 26mm torsionbars
Post by: wide-5 on February 11, 2009, 10:47:32 am
Hey.
I'm about to convert to 26mm torsionbars in the rear of my 60 -1.
My question about this is, what's the preload on bars like this? Or do they have any preload at all?
Petter

I installed 30mm torsion bars on 56 bug with stock weight, and the bars just change 2 degree when put on the ground.

I`m afraid you have to try to find out. I have 28 mm and do not have any preload at all, still a bit to high. Some recommend 1/4" above the stop and I will try that later.

I went to 26 mm on my Mex, and had to go one spline lower to get to standard height.

I put 26 mm bars into my 68 bug and set the pre load @ 11 degrees on left side and
10 degrees on right side.
if they are new bars you will have to reset them after a while.

Something went wrong with my order, so i got a set of 28mm instead..
No worries about that.. I'm just happy.  ;D
So then I try this 1/4" over the stop theory.
Thanks again..

And you will find out that it will be close to perfect... in my eyes  :)

Are you racing the car? I have 28's on my car, installed with 0 preload, but I think that might be a mistake... the ride height is perfect but it still squats to much on a glued track... I need to think about how to solve it.

In the moment i'm just prepairing my ride to join the race later.  ;)
The engine i have, is just a mild mod 1600. So it's not much of a racer..  :D
But later i hope to get a more powerfull engine, and start racing a bit..
