Title: a cold night at Irwindale with the cabrio
Post by: richie on February 14, 2009, 00:49:56 am
Took the cabrio to irwindale last night to try get my final license pass done, didnt happen mainly due to a new engine that still needs setting up,started out really rich to make it safe and only got 3 runs in due to the track getting cold and damp to quickly, this was the last pass and it got a little out of shape,no harm done though and I will try again next week if the rain holds off,yes it does rain in sunny southern california, quite alot recently >:( :( ::)

Besides the obvious shock, I heard you say the engine is done then, installed and running!  :)

What is actually involved in getting your licence over there? Strange that some-one with your long year experience and certified car needs to do so many 'trials' or so it seems...

Good point.  I think Richie will start in the right lane next time.  After all, it is his natural "fast lane".

Well after checking it out carefully i found nothing wrong so back together it went and i took it for a drive, weather was nice so perfect for roof down cruising ;D

I goes straight, under power, off power, and under boost ;) I am now 99.9% sure it was track conditions and some driver error, but not the car  :)

cheers richie,uk

And all joking aside, how would wheelie bars have helped? it didnt go that high and they dont stop it turning left or right?

Title: Re: a cold night at Irwindale with the cabrio
Post by: Jason Foster on February 15, 2009, 07:32:49 am
Just watched it again a few times, it went pretty high but I really noticed how far to the left you were staged.

I do think your car would benefit from sissy sticks (also think you should be spooled) but true they probably wouldn't of stopped that hook. I think you had the left tire completely out of the groove.

Jason, yes after watching some more I thought I was to far left as well which was the main cause of it,over the years it has always pulled right, if not straight whcih suggested something changed

Is that track kind of narrow or is it just the wall that makes it look that way?

Bloody Hell Richie, I nearly shat myself just watching that! Don't think I'd want to be behind the wheel! :o :D
Track does look very glossy though - if it was cold and has been raining a lot was there just some damp coming back up towards the surface?

Motor sounds ace too, and I like the valance! Dammit, I'm going to have to get myself over to America sometime soon to watch your car again! :)

Richie,

Did you decide to go back to Irwindale Thursday? The weather looks good!
I'd like to stop by on my way home from work and see your car run ;)

Oh yeah, I'll be happy to supply T.P. in the event of another wild run :o

What a wild ride that car must be... I'm with JHU, steering brakes might be a plus ;D

Richie,

It was nice to meet you and Jo last night, and good to see your car in person.

On your first run just before the burn out, the Mopar guys I was standing next to made a wisecrack or two about VW's... The one guy has a 440 Duster or something like that... anyway, you could tell on your first pass your car had more to give... after your pass the guy was shaking his head, and his buddies were the first to tell him your car would smoke his race car! At this point, I had to mention your car was street legal too ;D   Gotta love it!

Give a call next time you need another "pusher" for the staging lanes ;)

Keep up the good work, and we'll see you around.

~DR.
