Title: More shots of the Autometer Phantom Gauge install Post by: rick m on February 22, 2009, 03:26:01 am Just though a couple more angles would be cool to show you how the old school Cal Look dash looks with newer Autometer gauges installed. The Land Products tach mount is also killer. A step closer to having the car ready for the motor install.

Title: Re: More shots of the Autometer Phantom Gauge install Post by: rick m on February 22, 2009, 06:38:50 am It doesn't matter if you or anyone else thinks they are not old school. They look good and you can see them at night. The car was built in the 80's and was an old school looker at the time that I am updating so I can see the gauges. I've already owned numerous old school lookers. I wanted something different this go around. Do we throw out a lot of newer cars done in recent years and not call them Cal Look if they are using newer mods? I don't see that happening...
My friend Doug Mische's WOCKET Red 67 had newer gauges in it but it still got the front cover of Hot VWs as a Cal Looker. My 67 was the cover car of the 1996 Feb Cal Look issue and also had newer mods and looks we did not use in the 70's or 80's. For those who already lived in that era, I think we can pretty much use whatever we like and built it to our liking. It is good that there are still being lookers built, like it used to be(like in the good ol'days) with period goodies,I like that very much. But I have no problems with cars being built with "new" styled parts. I also think this is an neverending discussion on what is "right" and what is" not".(anyway, this is my opinion). When I will start building my late-looker,I will also use "newer style"parts ,because I like them . So guys, have fun building YOUR looker. grtz,Peter ;) |
