Anyone run M&H dots on the street? How is the tread wear? Can they be used on the highway?

 I've run mine on the street and highway from time to time probably a good 500 miles or more the tread wear seems fine only thing I don't like with 'em on the street is the car is a bit darty as they are bias ply.

I've also put about 1000 miles on mine.  No wear issues, but a little loose in the rain.  No, I wasn't trying.  Great size and look.  I'll run them at the drags, but now run the Cinturato's on the car.  If it were a daily driver, I might be concerned, considering the cost of the tire and the projected wear from the manufacturer, but it's not.

I have more than 5,000mi on mine so far.
They are about 1/2 worn on the thread depth, but noticalby softer on the "hook" now.
I have to do a burnout to get the good 60's for my Low 12's turbo street car now that they are wearing. 
That's 3 seasons of street driving, and about 6 passes at the track.

I'd call that pretty good life so far.

I kind of like them now that they will actually spin some on the street.
It' seems that folks are more impressed with spinning tires, than a strong 60'...

I love them.
They ride great on the highway or even on the twisties. I have no handling complaints about them.
Actually, I think it's because I run 135's on 3 1/2" rims up front. So it's a "balanced" handling feeling.
Easy to keep straight.
However, Like Dave said above. You might as well park it during the rain. It's like you are on a sheet of ice on the rear. Super loose....
Very difficult to drive with torquey motor out back.

I didn't like mine at all and sold them rather quickly.  They looked great on the car but after the first tromp on an open road, I couldn't get rid of 'em quick enough.  The car was very loose in back at speed... I think the problem stemmed from no rear suspension travel (bus snubbers that were touching the stops with no one in the car and old, weak stock torsion bars).  Something to consider.

Thanks for the input guys. I think I will probably go with a regular tire on the street and get a second set of rims w/ DOTs for use at the track.

Louis if you are going to use just for the track why not use Slicks?

I was going to ask that too! Only advantage I can think of with using DOTs is so that you can change the wheels at home, drive to the track, race and then drive home rather than carting an extra set of wheels and tyres to the track and changing there.

Because then the V8 geeks can't really use the "but you're using slicks" excuse when you are busting some heads at the track.   ;)

They have street legal drags here on Friday nights and it requires DOT legal tires. (You have to drive the car in the gate as well.) I am honestly more interested in racing non-VWs at the strip.

I also want to be able to drive my VW any time any where and it doesn't sound like DOTs will do that for me. It rains a lot here in N. Florida and often without much warning.
