Title: New Blue
Post by: Bryan67 on March 11, 2009, 03:41:27 am
Finally got my 66 back on the road. Used the 1914 out my now deceased Fastback, a Metalcraft built trans (Thanks Scott), 2" beam, CB discs..... I know the "Patina" look isn`t very popular here but it will do untill (Or if) it ever gets painted. This car has been running around town here for years so it has a little sentiment for me.

Cool car! I dig '66 Beetles. No worries on the paint... Cal Lookers can get away with it. Can't wait to get my 1915cc engine. What size carbs did you use, 44mm? That's what I'm hoping to end up with. Which cam do you have?

Bryan, your cars always look right on!  I think that color is my favorite factory color, and the patina is sweet!

Its kind of a mystery motor since it was in my Fastback when I bought it. But it is a 1914 with stock heads and what feels like a 110 cam and supposedly 9 to 1 compression. Full flowed also. Oh yeah, and 40 Dells.

It looks great, no worries!  That patina is Socal OG cool to me.

Bad patina is rust, rust holes, crappy accessories plastered all over the car, mexican blanket seats, and bottle caps bent/pinched over the drip rails.

I agree. I like faded original paint, but there is a fine line. Your car looks killer, Bryan! Don't change a thing.

I like that car! Reminds me of Sheep's red '67, which ran the K8 1915cc 48IDA motor. Cars like this are obviously cared for, and to me that's what matters. The details are all there.
Looks like a fun car that can be used. Have fun!  8)

Centerlines are a nice fresh change.

Already did that. Wet sand with 2000 grit, buff with mild compound then with 3M finesse it polish and wax. We`ll see how long it lasts.

Sweet car! The pictures are giving a little motivation to get working on my original paint '63 which coincidentally has a set of centerlines sitting next to it waiting for it.

Steering wheel is an old Lecarra from the Fastback. It looked good in there but I want to find a 3 spoke one with polished spokes.

Nice car, Bryan... nice because you can drive it and not have to worry about it so much.  It's cool having "paint" but I miss the patina days of old.  Louis, looks like you found a winner... good luck!

That car is sweet! I am trying to achieve the same look with my car (...or have been for the last 12 years!) but I primed the spots that had no paint (due to the rust taking over). Too bad I don't have cool wheels like yours...Stock smoothies and real 356 rims in the rear that are 4.5" wide. Your interior really fits the "bill" too.

Well, I didn`t expect it to be this popular but thanks for the comments. I still have some plans for it but nothing major. Need to make a filler board to replace the back seat, maybe some black door panels and carpet. The clutch has an annoying chatter issue that needs to be addresed too.
