Title: New Blue Post by: Bryan67 on March 11, 2009, 03:41:27 am Finally got my 66 back on the road. Used the 1914 out my now deceased Fastback, a Metalcraft built trans (Thanks Scott), 2" beam, CB discs..... I know the "Patina" look isn`t very popular here but it will do untill (Or if) it ever gets painted. This car has been running around town here for years so it has a little sentiment for me.

I dig '66 Beetles. No worries on the paint... Cal Lookers can get away with it. Can't wait to get my 1915cc engine. What size carbs did you use, 44mm? That's what I'm hoping to end up with. Which cam do you have?
Title: Re: New Blue Post by: Cornpanzer on March 11, 2009, 03:51:56 am Bryan, your cars always look right on! I think that color is my favorite factory color, and the patina is sweet!
Title: Re: New Blue Post by: TexasTom on March 11, 2009, 03:58:12 am Bryan,
Great job! I think it's just right. Don't change a thing. Tom Title: Re: New Blue Post by: Bryan67 on March 11, 2009, 03:59:49 am Its kind of a mystery motor since it was in my Fastback when I bought it. But it is a 1914 with stock heads and what feels like a 110 cam and supposedly 9 to 1 compression. Full flowed also. Oh yeah, and 40 Dells.
Title: Re: New Blue Post by: 58vw on March 11, 2009, 04:03:36 am looks good, leave it and make it haul ;D

But it is a 1914 with stock heads and what feels like a 110 cam and supposedly 9 to 1 compression. Full flowed also. Oh yeah, and 40 Dells. Right on. Enjoy! Title: Re: New Blue Post by: Bryan67 on March 11, 2009, 04:14:31 am Thanks guys. I`m definately on more of a budget now since buying a house awhile back but thats ok. At least I have a garage again!
Title: Re: New Blue Post by: Cheesepanzer on March 11, 2009, 04:17:52 am Nice looking car! And I dig the merged with dual QP set-up!! ;) 8)
Title: Re: New Blue Post by: Dave Rosique on March 11, 2009, 04:21:05 am I like it! The car has character... dig the Centerlines too ;) ~DR Title: Re: New Blue Post by: Fritter on March 11, 2009, 04:57:39 am It looks great, no worries! That patina is Socal OG cool to me.
Bad patina is rust, rust holes, crappy accessories plastered all over the car, mexican blanket seats, and bottle caps bent/pinched over the drip rails. Title: Re: New Blue Post by: Cornpanzer on March 11, 2009, 14:51:26 pm That patina is Socal OG cool to me. I cant believe you said OG. Thats it, your out of the club! ::) ::) ;) Title: Re: New Blue Post by: Fastbrit on March 11, 2009, 15:18:47 pm That patina is Socal OG cool to me. I cant believe you said OG. Its a badge of honor to escape the home improvement paint jobs and what the hippy's did. ;D Title: Re: New Blue Post by: javabug on March 11, 2009, 18:01:39 pm Looks great! Maybe down in the front just a tad more...otherwise its killer! Of course it looked good "before", also.
Title: Re: New Blue Post by: Bendik on March 11, 2009, 18:05:09 pm Cool car, love the stance and the Centerlines. What seats are those and did You mount them on VW seat bases?
Title: Re: New Blue Post by: lawrence on March 11, 2009, 18:24:30 pm It looks great, no worries! That patina is Socal OG cool to me. Bad patina is rust, rust holes, crappy accessories plastered all over the car, mexican blanket seats, and bottle caps bent/pinched over the drip rails. I agree. I like faded original paint, but there is a fine line. Your car looks killer, Bryan! Don't change a thing. Title: Re: New Blue Post by: Fritte on March 11, 2009, 18:25:24 pm Killer stance and the centerline is perfrct 8) Nice car.
Title: Re: New Blue Post by: Jim Ratto on March 11, 2009, 18:28:57 pm I like that car! Reminds me of Sheep's red '67, which ran the K8 1915cc 48IDA motor. Cars like this are obviously cared for, and to me that's what matters. The details are all there.
Looks like a fun car that can be used. Have fun! 8) Centerlines are a nice fresh change. Title: Re: New Blue Post by: beetletom on March 11, 2009, 18:30:21 pm thats cool! 8)
love how the primer and faded sea blue merge together.... Title: Re: New Blue Post by: Fritter on March 11, 2009, 23:59:21 pm That patina is Socal OG cool to me. I cant believe you said OG. Thats it, your out of the club! ::) ::) ;) Dave, I'm just too lazy to type original, that's all. ;D Title: Re: New Blue Post by: Fritter on March 12, 2009, 00:01:04 am That patina is Socal OG cool to me. I cant believe you said OG. Thats it, your out of the club! ::) ::) ;) Yea, what he said. ;D Title: Re: New Blue Post by: Cornpanzer on March 12, 2009, 02:28:01 am If OG actually was an abbreviation for "original" that would be fine. ::) ;D Hows things in the 'hood, Mr Chicago Original Gangsta? ;) Hangin with da bitches and hoes?
Title: Re: New Blue Post by: Bryan67 on March 12, 2009, 03:20:03 am Bryan - Sweet 66 - I love og paint!! Just wax that bitch! Already did that. Wet sand with 2000 grit, buff with mild compound then with 3M finesse it polish and wax. We`ll see how long it lasts. Its a badge of honor to escape the home improvement paint jobs and what the hippy's did. ;D Title: Re: New Blue Post by: Fritter on March 12, 2009, 04:01:14 am If OG actually was an abbreviation for "original" that would be fine. ::) ;D Hows things in the 'hood, Mr Chicago Original Gangsta? ;) Hangin with da bitches and hoes? :-* Title: Re: New Blue Post by: jamiep_jamiep on March 12, 2009, 15:55:34 pm Nice car!
Whats the steering wheel? Title: Re: New Blue Post by: peach_ on March 12, 2009, 17:11:01 pm That looks sweet!
8) Title: Re: New Blue Post by: Sam K on March 13, 2009, 03:14:33 am Sweet car! The pictures are giving a little motivation to get working on my original paint '63 which coincidentally has a set of centerlines sitting next to it waiting for it.
Title: Re: New Blue Post by: Bryan67 on March 13, 2009, 04:57:52 am Steering wheel is an old Lecarra from the Fastback. It looked good in there but I want to find a 3 spoke one with polished spokes.
Title: Re: New Blue Post by: louisb on March 13, 2009, 12:42:53 pm Man you posted that and I had to do a double take. My "new" 66. Nice looking car.

It's cool having "paint" but I miss the patina days of old. Louis, looks like you found a winner... good luck!
Title: Re: New Blue Post by: youngnstudly on March 16, 2009, 00:43:51 am That car is sweet! I am trying to achieve the same look with my car (...or have been for the last 12 years!) but I primed the spots that had no paint (due to the rust taking over). Too bad I don't have cool wheels like yours...Stock smoothies and real 356 rims in the rear that are 4.5" wide. Your interior really fits the "bill" too.
Title: Re: New Blue Post by: Bryan67 on March 18, 2009, 03:57:54 am Well, I didn`t expect it to be this popular but thanks for the comments. I still have some plans for it but nothing major. Need to make a filler board to replace the back seat, maybe some black door panels and carpet. The clutch has an annoying chatter issue that needs to be addresed too.
Title: Re: New Blue Post by: Rasser on March 18, 2009, 10:42:27 am Original color seablue patina cars always looks great.
Here is my old bus and my friends 64. Your car looks great by the way ;-) Title: Re: New Blue Post by: Bryan67 on March 19, 2009, 05:10:53 am That thing should buff out nicely. ;D
