Title: DDS Shifter question
Post by: GASBNR on March 12, 2009, 13:04:08 pm
Does anyone know if its possible to turn a LHD shifter to RHD? and how?
I just got one and am hoping its easy just to undo the screw and turn bit like my BERG locker

Hope this is in the right section,

Thanks in advance

It is possible but you'll have to butcher the inner part of the dds handle.
There is a steel ring molded into the plastic handle.
This steel ring has a spline. If you want to make a right hand drive shifter, you will have to shave this spline and turn the handle. But this spline hold the handle in the good position and strenghts it : if shaved, the handle could be loose on the shifter and probably handle will crack easier.

I asked this same question a while back - I now have a DDS shifter (in LHD) I've looked into swapping it over and as guillaume says you have to modify the "Inner" part of the shifter - once you have the handle removed it will make more sence, basiclly the button pushes a small lever which lifts the lockout pin and if you want to convert it over to RHD then this lever will need to be turned through 180degs - Not simple but it can be done  :)

As Monkeyboy said, the small lever can be turn heasily. By the way, whatch out because their is a small white plastic part that can broke easily. Then, you'll have to shave the spline inside the handle. but be prepare to have cracks and a loose handle ;-)
