Title: Porsche 911 cooling fans
Post by: drgouk on March 14, 2009, 07:04:43 am
What model porsche 911 cooling fan assembly is the most efficent? the 245mm 911 turbo or are the 964/993 cooling fans just as good? Also how do the fans from BAS, GWD and CSP, compare to the genuine porsche part?
Looking for one to cool my Pauter engine. Please let me know. Thanks

Mine's CSP but they don't make them anymore. FYI, I was looking at the Autocraft website and they list them there.

Hello

why don't you ask Pauter as he has a Porsche shroud on his Ghia's engine, and If I remember correctly he even sells this shroud (don't know thow if he sells a complete kit or the shroud seperately)

Hi Steve,I just looked in the CSP-catalog and on their website:and it's still available(porsche style cooling system for T1 &T4).

Hi David

The best cooling systems that are avaliable are our grman Type 4 . They will fit to the pauter heads but i do not know about the Pauter case ...
CSP's must be avaliable

I had a list somewhere about all cu.ft/min of air all the several types of porsche fans moved, complete with drive ratios.

For the best cooling efficiency, you 'may' want to look at other aspects of the cooling than just cu.ft/min  ;) The type of shroud used is very critical too and pls don't ask me what 'the best shroud' is  :D

Thanks for the replies, good info. I have another Question, What are the 993 cooling fans like? better than the earlier 11 blades?

That's a really clean looking set up!
Who did the front engine tin? Looks really well done.

About the efficiency of the Porsche cooling, a friend runs a Weytal shroud which was especially design to cool a 4 cylinders.

The original 12-blade delivers less cu.ft/min air then an original 11-blade.
Less air does not always mean its a lesser fan...
Sometimes too much air only stalls the fan and if the fan can't get all that air pushed through the fins, it only costs more power and cools less. Proper air direction, read: less turbulence inside the shroud is where its at  ;)

I'm under the impression that the stock doghouse or DTM shrouds are more efficient in cooling than the Porsche set ups?  At least stateside, I don't know much about the European systems available...
