Just thought I'd say a quick hello and introduce myself. I'm Russ Weir from Kent in the UK Here's my ride, a Cali-import '74 Ghia Coupe 2009 is my second season racing in the VWDRC in VW Sportsman class, last year was with a 1641 motor. So far so good this year, Qualified 1st at both meetings, won the first and came runner-up in the second (http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h40/russlolly/BigBang2.jpg) She's got a 1914cc motor built by RNJ Motorsport; Kennedy 1 cover, Pro-Grip disc, 12lb flywheel, full dynamic balance, match weighted rods, Engle W120 cam, hi-rev lifters, 1.25:1 rockers, 35.5x40 valves in reworked heads, hi-rev single springs, 8:1 CR, remote oli filter. Currently running a single 40DRLA with 32 vents, as my twin 40DRLAs are going through a rebuild. 1.25" merged header with twin quietpack/swivel stinger The rear is IRS, stock height and features KYB gas shocks, type 2 bump-stops and 5mm wheel spacer. The front is balljoint/disc and features a 3" narrowed beam built by myself, and currently a 5" drop on adjusters (shock tower seams are 40mm from the ground) Empi short oil shocks, anti bump-steer bushes and 1 set of castor shims. Wheels are early 4-stud 5x15 thin-lip Rivieras with 145/65 Bridgestones up front and 205/60 Federals out back Best run is 16.16s @ 81.79, but that's with the single carb, hoping for a mid to low 15 when the twins are bolted on. Perhaps you simply need a visit to a dyno. Or it might be you're not launching/hooking up too well. well i checked the manual and a fastback weighs 1100kg or something off 2400lbs. so i am fatter. ;D what hp does your car have. mine has 115hp on the dyno, but alas i can't remove the belt. about the launching and hooking up that can indeed be a problem as i am still learning a lot. and hopefully improve so what numbers (hp/ torque) are you running? I've not had her dyno'd yet, but judging by the weight and times I would guess about 105bhp @ flywheel, no idea about torque. She's going to be dyno'd when the new carbs go on as I really want to make the best of them. As for the launch, and I'm no expert, this is my drill. Rear tyres 14psi. Handbrake on (button held down), 1st gear engaged, clutch up as much as the brake will hold, 5000RPM on the tacho, then let everything go when the lights drop.
