Purple Haze is the one for me.... After getting out of Viet Nam in 1968, I was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas (Fort Head is what we used to call it).  The beer of choice back then was Coors for us Californians and the only place to get it was at a road house near Waco (about 75 miles north) of the base.  I remember the first time we were there.... small place, VERY LOUD band, dark, strobe lights; Purple Haze 8)

Rainbow Bridge, although "set up" it has some fantastic tracks. Like Jim said: Hear My Train Coming. It's an ungodly good live-track on the album.

I watched Jimi At Woodstock DVD the other day. He could have done the whole session alone with the old Experience.
He's the soberest and most concentrated Hendrix i have ever seen.
Wish he had lived long enough to do the thing he had in mind with Miles Davis.

Same here, though I am 10 yr older. I remember when I first started driving, I had this job as a bagger at grocery store. You had to be "on" all of the time, "yes ma'am" this and "yes sir" that... all day long. Real rigid, especially for a 16-17 yr old. They'd send me on a break and I'd go veg in my Bug and listen to Hendrix... like clockwork "Gypsy Boy/New Rising Sun"
it was therapy.
Hendrix wasn't human. He was God.

Funny, that's about the same age I got my hands on a Hendrix tape.  A friend's dad who was a semi-hippy/music type made a copy for me.

He was God - indeed

I was 13 (1972) and a friend gave me a copy of The Cry of Love - I wore that album out and replaced it twice.
I've been listing to this for 36 years and it just as fresh and progressive. I love everything Hendrix, but this is my Favorite Album of all time.

It was released in 1971 after Jimi passed, it gave us a glimpse into Hendrix's future direction.

"Freedom"
"Drifting"
"Ezy Ryder"
"Night Bird Flying"
"My Friend"
"Straight Ahead"
"Astro Man"
"Angel"
"In From the Storm"
"Belly Button Window"
