ha ha....I`m stripping the second half of the crankcase down at the moment....on the flywheel cover there is what i think is a sensor, 3 pin plug at one end, the other fits into the housing and thru to the other side....first off what does it do, i cant find it in any of the books i`ve got and asecong how does it come off

it is a part of original VW diagnostic system, probably TDC sensor? I see them often with wires cut off.

cheers....any idea how to either remove the plug from the sensor or the whole sensor itself.....arent these normally associated with fuel injected setups...

It is used for FI setups. Most guys who use these cases just snip off the wire and leave it.
sometimes you can punch or press them out with a drift punch. Sometimes Not...
