Title: New reubuilt car
Post by: Bugsy on June 05, 2009, 19:05:39 pm
Hade a goal to finish befor BugRun in Sweden but didnīt get it to run properly. So the finale tuning will be set for next week.

The right carb runs perfect with good response but the left one just wont get it. Got a good clean intake sound on the right but the left one just pulsing and dont respond when opening the throtle. If someone got a solutin for that i would be very happy. This is my fisrt atempt with dual carbs and i am trying to learn as much as it takes for building a nice engine for the car in the future. But here i am now. So please, if you have any tips i would be more than happy to try them out.

The car is ready for the streets and is so nice to drive.

Thanks Christophe

Hade a pic of the engine.

1600cc, rebuilt stock heads with 3 angle seats, Kadrons with 32mm vents 55 idles but main unknown and vacc, 034 dist, no balance tube . 1 1/2 header and single QP. More will come in time but as the car needed an ovehaul the money went in to that. From what i was used to (orig. unrebuilt 1600cc engine) this was a major step and I realy want more but the family and wallet donīt. ;D (Schhh! Iīm working in the dark from now) so if one carb donīt run ok it will be even better when it does.

God damn (Sorry), it took me 28 years to get here!!!!!!???

Thanks guys, realy appreciate the compliments. It came out pretty good after all hard work last winter. Would be so nice to go for a ride now  ;D

Still have some engine problems to sort out though. Hade hoped on a loose wire, but no. They where all in place.
It sounds like itīs only runing on 3-cyl. and left carb is not responding. I have checked thru everything (not inside carb though) i could think of today.
Komp. test showing 8kg on both 3 and 4-cyl so that was not the case.

Looks awesome!...as mentioned above: The picture could very well be from the early 70s - Cool :) !

...missed your car at BugRun this past week end  :( ...I hope you make it to the VW-BBQ tomorrow night for a first showing of your build  :)!

The car is ready for the streets and is so nice to drive.

Post more history of the car. Was it originally build a Cal Looker long time ago?

Hebster: Sorry, no pics from last weekend.

Tero: I dont now so much of the history about it, but it was first rebuilt some time in the late 80īs (as a looker of that era with the original 1300) and as i understod put in storage for some years in the early 90īs.

Then sold on a couple of times and lived a pretty hard life the last 15 years. I found  it in an ad just as i hade registerd here and gotten really hooked on callook. It hade been parket on gras for about 3 years and looked like a mess, but it seamd like a god start to rebuild though to get it out on the streets again.

It already had a couple of accessories from the 70īs that gave it some nice toch of a late 70īs looker that i wanted to keep, as it was part of the cars history. So i just gave it a new start in life with some welding, new colour, all new interior(except the seats), wheels, and the 1600 engine came in as the last thing beacuse the car needed so much work and excpense in everything else.

So for now itīs a nice car to drive and ready to go for the next level in the development. But, think i have to wait untill at least one of the kids is out of the nest ;D

Remember, this is built on a real budget so far.

One pic from 2002 (oldest i could find) and one from when we picked it up.
