Title: I want my IDA`s painted black
Post by: Mags on June 08, 2009, 17:07:31 pm
Hi,

Which company can paint them for me? If somebody is willing to bring them along to the states I can deliver on EBI.

Thanks
Mags

I see my Weber and I want it painted black
No colors anymore I want them to turn black

I see the castles dressed in their silver sheen
I have thought of red or maybe even green.

I see a line of carbs and none of em are black
No looker should have a carb painted black.

I see people turn their heads and quickly look away
Not even DDS did that to an IDA.

I look inside myself and see my heart is black
I see my Webers, I must have them painted black

Maybe then I'll fade away and not have to face the facts
It's not easy facin' folks when your forty eights are black

No more will my green sea go turn a deeper blue
I could not foresee this thing happening to you

If I look hard enough into the spray paint rack
My friends willl laugh at point when the carbys black
I see a Weber  and I want it painted black
Not as cast anymore I want them to turn black

Wanna see their face?, paint em black
Black as night, black as coal

I wanna see  laughter ,swear they gonna die...rolling on the floor...
I wanna see it painted, painted, painted, painted black
Yeah!

Just paint 'em semi-gloss black. Not that hard. Remember to remove the screws/bolts/nuts/screens/etc. Tape off what you don't want sprayed (like the insides, etc.) and you're done. Probably want to get a coat of etching primer on there first, though. I've seen a couple of cars done like that... it looks GREAT.

I had to do it on some old ferarri carbs a few years back now - my advice is don't just tape off the hole, use replacement screws to blank off holes where you can but be REALLY carefull of the threads  :)

I just read a feature somewhere recently that had a car with black IDA's and they were powder coated.

I would think powder coating would be the way to go for a lasting finish.  Simply painting them won't stand the test of time as gas will eat the paint.

only problem I see is that powder coating is VERY thick  :-\

Never seen a problem with painting them. Besides, good luck with powder coating any carb. Sounds like a recipe for disaster. Way easier and more functional to paint them. But... to each their own.

Here's a pair of 46 IDAs me and Fonz did for a customer recently. A nightmare to do, to be honest. A day's worth of stripping down and cleaning. Another day to mask up, etch prime and paint. Hours' of careful assembly. I am not sure I'd want to do it again...

...it was worth the effort! I like the look of an engine with barely chrome and colours!
Black carbs fit perfekt to a concept like this!

I was thinking lavender! Pink would be more suited for someone who let's off half track ;D
