Title: Rolling Blackout spikes high at the Classic in Irvine.
Post by: WCB Hitler's Hot Rod on June 16, 2009, 09:05:07 am
Wow! What an action packed weekend starting for me actually on Friday, with an invitation to an open house party at Heads Up Performance. Roger hosted an awesome party at his shop just before the DKP Nicks event. With our stomachs full with the best damn tacos ever assembled, we drove down to Nicks. As we pulled up, the place was packed but Stephan S. was nice enough to make room for my car along with my other '50 vert. It was a wonderful payoff to receive so many compliments concerning the RB. Congratz to Scott receiving the club choice award. Just a side note... I had alot of emails that night from friends confused about the car they chose, but to keep this at a professional level I now know where I stand with DKP and respect their common standards. A problem arose after deciding to leave with the starter not engaging. After a quick push start, I was able to drive away. Turned out the starter bolt rattled loose along the way to the event. A quick fix thanks to Buddy Hale and Ricky Fischer.
Sunday is etched in my life as one of the best days I have ever had. Starting at 5:30 a.m.; My two boys, myself in the RB ,Roger, Buddy, Ricky and several others all caravaned to the Classic in Irvine from my house. After setting up my two cars I was surprised to see such a huge turnout. The largest ever IMO. It made it that much sweeter when at the end of the event I received a beautifully hand crafted Best of Show Custom award AND $500.00 CASH (Thanks HOT VW's) along with a first place plaque for my class. This now makes a 3 peet that the RB has won this award and two for Best Engineered. I also received a first place for my '50 vert. Daaaaang! What a day!

Of course all this wouldn't of happened without a huge support group. In fact, I had very little to do with the great success of both of these cars. The people I would like to thank are the best in the business and with out them I simply couldn't have done it. It started with a phone call from T1 Restoration ( Buddy and Ricky); I owe you two soooo much gratitude. You guys worked so hard helping me achieve these awards the "thankyous" are a mile long. They both worked long hours, many days getting the car set up to show. The rest, not in order I would like to thank are JCL Race Cars Team with Jimmy Candy and Austin. Jimmy and family;the mastermind of the RB; I honor your incredible intelligence and humble personality. Austin...well your half way there. LOL!    Roger Crawford for all my engine needs, even made time for me at his open house celibration to wrench on my car. House of Power is the best!    Aaron and Scott for wiring up the car and using your shop for assembly. You guys are true perfectionists!   Bob LaCosta for the complete refurbish of my '50 vert. Awesome job bro!  There are many other people involved with both cars you know who you are...please forgive me.THANKS! The magazines will make it known!

Last but not least..Thanks to the Hole family, Hot Vw's , So. Cal. Imports and all the other sponsers for putting on the GREATEST EVENT EVER! A day I will never forget! 8)

Glad you brought that up!  For the record, it was an honor to finally meet Mark R.  His late model car meant alot to me growing up; so much that the RB is actually a spinoff from his original car even though mines a '67! Thanks bro! Deeks are the nicest guys you'll ever meet!

Wow, Rick... those are cool shots of Mark's car with the standard late '70s plates. When I met him, I could've sworn that he have vanity plates that read MY TOY. Either way, nice to see some different shots of it. That car was way ahead of it's time.

Having been with Mark when he built that car, I can say you've done it one better. Your level of detail is frightening. Yo should be very proud.

Lookin' forward to seeing your Orange County Terror  finally completed and hittin' the streets Dean. It will be an awesome Looker for sure! Don't forget to call me when the "marriage" of pan and body takes place. I want to be best man during that ceremony. Ha ha! Seriously, call me if you need a hand.

Thanks Danny (Metal Mulisha) and Dyno (Magic) for your posts! You two were among many that contributed to this car. Everyone will be mentioned when the editors take over.

Peter, I'm hoping you will read all the details in next years Cal-look edition. Thanks for your interest!

Hey Steve, sorry I didn't stop by to say hello, I was parked across from you, but your car is awesome to say the least. Seen it when you first brought it out, just awesome.

Marks black late looker is another awesome car, always drooled over his car, another awesome car from the past. Be cool to see Mark built a replica of that car. Theres alot of clean late bugs out there to start with.  ;D

Both these guys are down to earth cool guy's in my book!
