I've been reading up on this as I'm very new to EFI ecu etc and I think that I will need some sort of crank trigger ignition system with 24 teeth or less, it must be an even number, according to the manual. It appears I will need also an external ignitor but for how may coil packs or what make are compatible has me stumped at the moment It appears that you are able to by ignitors for 1 to 4 coils. Why would I need more than one coil pack? as I'm a bit lost with this any help wold be great Ta Ron Title: Re: What ignition are you running with your turbo efi Post by: Martin on June 17, 2009, 16:09:47 pm Hello Ron,
You'll need a toothed wheel on the crank, along with a crank triger sensor, i dont know how many teath as ive not yet read about the ecu (i've downloaded the manual). You need a minimum of 2 coils. each coil has 2 output posts. one coil fires 1 & 3 and the other fires 2 & 4 (its a wasted spark system). or you can have one coil per cylinder. the first option is the easyest. you can use a regular ford coil like this http://www.dtafast.co.uk/accessories/acc%204+6%20cyl%20coils.jpg I make a crank triger setup. http://www.taylormachine.co.uk/Taylor_Machine_Services/Products.html hope this helps Martin Title: Re: What ignition are you running with your turbo efi Post by: Rocket Ron on June 17, 2009, 22:28:16 pm Martin
Thanks for taking the time with this to show me the way forward I would be very interested in one of you crank fired systems could you pm me a cost for this? also would the coil packs be the bosch 008 packs ? and would I need an external ignitor for these if I'm running the 4424 stinger, reading thought the manual it appears so. What are the advantages of running one coil per cylinder as apposed to a pair? thanks in advance and sorry I didn't get back to you sooner as I've been out on an appointment for work this evening, turns out the guy I met runs a skyline that does 7.6 quarters and has a new 350z that he will be running in pro mod later this year thats run a 6.6 stateside :o regards Ron Title: Re: What ignition are you running with your turbo efi Post by: Martin on June 18, 2009, 07:06:30 am Morning Ron,
The valero coil packs as supplied to fords / Vauxhalls should just wire strait into the ecu. The advantage of running coil on plug, is that they get longer to charge up between cycles so if your running say more than 25 psi boost and your spinning up to 8,000+ rpm the coil on plug set up has a better chance of lighting it all up! anything other than that, then the twin coil deal is the best as easiest to set up. you'll be amazed how strong the spark is. the guy in the skyline are doing a great job, I can't wait to see there 350z I'll pm you on the trigger costing Martin Title: Re: What ignition are you running with your turbo efi Post by: Rocket Ron on June 18, 2009, 12:00:12 pm Morning Ron, The valero coil packs as supplied to fords / Vauxhalls should just wire strait into the ecu.
