Title: T-Bars on Late Model???
Post by: DKK Ted on June 25, 2009, 06:37:41 am
T-Bars on a late model, Hex or Round stock?? I know Hex T-Bars on early cars back in the day was cool, how about the late models?

Jason's right, Ted... it's whatever YOU like. Personally, I like to change it up between t-bars and bumpers for my cars. I did that on my first Cal Looker and I'm doing it now. If I had a late car, it would have bumpers painted body color with the rubber impact strip. But that's me... we're all different and have differing tastes, thankfully. I don't care for the late t-bars, but to each their own. It's your car so there are no rules. The nice thing is... the t-bars are cheap and easily switched. As far as hex or round... it's personal preference, again. I've never seen hex shaped ones on a late car. I grew up seeing only the round ones on those.

Hi Jason, Mark, ya, you guy's are spot-on. But it is nice when you can change it up abit. Theres this guy that sells VW parts and T-Bars that is located in La Habra. Makes round and hex for early or late bugs. He's on the Samba. Was thinking of going old school with the hex bar, a little different, might be cool, also will give me a chance to have my bumpers re-chromed anyway and the brackets powdercoated. But it will give it a different look with the five spoke alloys that I'm thinking of putting back on. I appreciate the honesty and you right, it's what I want. But I was just curious on what everybody thinks about the hex look on a late car. I do like the old school look as you can tell, but it's nice to make it yours by adding or changing something and still be suttle, NO bling. Thats why I like Scott's Ghia. Very Clean, and NO bling, his car is a good example of that.  ;)

do what you really suits your car. i like the round ones better the the hex bars for some reason...

Hey Ted, if you're talking about Robert Taylor at Fast Fab, I'll be getting together with him soon. He's got a nice decklid prop that I'm picking up for the '55. Just a thought here, you might think about having a "one-off" T-bar made that would kinda add your personal signature to the car. I'd bet Robert could do that. We had Buddy Hale fab some up for the '55, but La Habra's a lot closer.

Ted, you could hang hot pink wipers on your car and I would still love it!

That grey car is stunning!

Agreed, Alfie. That'd be one tough looking car. Love the color, too.

I for one don't think they work with the stubby hood and lid of a late model... but to each their own ;)

You can see some on Greg Brinton's '74. And his are hex, by the way.

Thanks guy's for your input, garyj, yes, that is exactly who it is Robert Taylor, seems like a nice guy, we have been e-mailing each other on the T-bars.
John, didn't know Gerg had a 74'? Have any pics of it? Will be ordering them from Robert, they are nice pieces, very nice welds. I believe I need to have them polished, and that's fine.

By the way, that grey bug is very nice, when I met my wife in 84', she had a 68' just like that one, same grey, just with eight spokes instead AND T-bars!  :) Brings back nice memories, that's the time I had my green 67' that I had bought from "Pep" Medrano. Good old days.  ::)  ;)  ;D

Well I just want to give cudo's to Robert Taylor at FASTFAB for taking care of me with a set of TBars. Was there Friday afternoon to pick them up, and he gave me a tour of his shop and saw the rest of his products he creates. This dud is very talented on what he does. Was very impressed. I fully recommed Robert products, they are top notch. Workmanship is the best. What else can I say. ;D

Hey Mark, well I stayed with the coventional look, but quality is exceptional, can't wait to get these polished. They will be on when they are done.
