hi,

i was just wondering whether anyone knows which of the aftermarket valve covers does seal as good as the factory ones?
sometimes you just wanna go for the looks  ;)

i take it race trim and claudes buggies do seal.

bugpack? uses bails...
CB C-channel? "just bolt 'em on for a no leak fit"  ::)
older empis? the ones with the name on them, not the cheap ones on ebay...
SCAT? think they look ugly though...

just wondering...  :)

In my experience, nothing seals like stock! But I completely understand the need for a little more flash ;) Most all of the old valve covers (Race-Trim, Dynosoar, ect) were made off the same molds so they all work (leak) equally ;)

and the new ones are just plain crap?

The SCAT stainless steel valve covers are ugly....yes I know.....but them don't leak!!

 I have a pair of plain stainless steel valve covers without a brand on them (look a bit like the ones from Scat) and they perform perfectly like stock ones do...
 Don't know where they came from. (I think it's an old pair from CSP...)

 If I were you I'd just use the originals... unless you could find some go-faster valvecovers I think it's a "waste" of money... (not that they're that expensive but still..)

i was hoping old empis were alright, then i could just pick up and old set.
it sometimes cool to see them coming out behind the rear wheels if you know what i mean, but them ugly scat covers would scare me off.

Depends on the lift you run,thats the reason I went to Scats,had to dimple the stock ones and they never seemed as good after,the stainless Scat allow more lift,cheers richie,uk

The race trim items have a massive amount of clearence for ratio'd rockers etc and they seal really well - for the mounting bolt holes I used countersunk allen key bolts with small rubber O ring washers  :)

The originals fit and seal like, well... original parts.  You can paint 'em, vent 'em, chrome 'em, and dimple 'em to whatever you want- cheap too.

If you run a lot of lift, you can end up tagging the inside of the valvecover with the rocker and it will leak like a harley.  You can whack them with a ball peen hammer for more clearance, but like richie said, they don't always work as well as they used to.  The Scats have bitchin reliefs for loads of lift, and seal up great with a stock valve cover bail.  The only catch is, the edges of those can be deadly sharp, so be careful and use a little file work so you don't lose a finger.

I'm not really a big fan of bolt on valve covers because they take longer to remove and replace, don't seem to seal up as well as stockers, and I just don't like the look of them- that's all.

I might be one of the chosen few that actually has managed to get old superflow valvecovers to seal. It took 2,5 years of hard work and determination to find the right goop to keep the gaskets from moving around and the m6 have dubble nuts and a bar in between them. The kit they sell with the springs between the nuts is a joke. If you want some just walk down your local dragstrip and there should be plenty.

Stock, along with good (or new) original retaining springs.

Def Stock or SCAT Stainless ones, they don't leak

genuine vw covers work every time as long as the clips are goos and tight, i run dds covers on mine and treuhaft on my girlfreinds car  and dont have a problem with them leaking.
