Title: For Sale: 1966 Cal Look Beetle
Post by: Rich Ghia on June 29, 2009, 14:20:21 pm
After much deliberating I'm putting my Beetle up for sale. Due to marriage next year, plus the standard living costs sadly I can no longer justify keeping her and not running her as much as I want to. She has done me well over the last 5 years with constant reliability. I have only had to have her annual service. All the costs I have put in have been subtle cosmetic changes. My proudest moment came when she was awarded Best Cal Look at Bug Jam 2005. I then went onto purchase Original Sprints to replace the MWS BRMs as this was the look I always wanted.

I bought her in 2004 where the previous owner had spent around £10k bringing her up to the current spec. She had been purchased by Luke Theocari and had been sitting in a back yard for years. The 65,000 miles are genuine. She needed a freshen up and an exterior respray only which was performed by Terry's Beetle Services. The finish was so good the paint is a fresh as it was when I bought her. The majority of the costs were in the running gear and the respray. I have all of the receipts detailing everything. The interior is practically new, as new as you would expect a 44 year old car to be. Vinyl seats and original rubber mats are still in there.

She runs a 1600cc with twin 40 Dell'Ortos. My plan was always to increase the cc's but I just haven't got the funds for this and won't have in the near future so I feel it is time to let someone else enjoy her.

As I bought her in 2004.

As she was when winning Bug Jam award. I still have the genuine VW US Spec bumpers in my loft. These could be added back on.

I decided to invest in some OG Sprints after seeing a Java Green Belgian Bug at Spa in 2005 which blew me away and returned the next year with them fitted.

On track at Spa.

I wanted spacers as I wasn't happy with the tucked look. This was last summer. The silencer was also repositioned to tuck into the wing more.

On the move.

I've just recently had a 2" CB narrowed beam fitted to replace my previous beam as this was damaged by a pothole. All repairs have been handled by Farnborough VW Centre who have serviced her for the past 2 years.

At Stonor this year.

I'm looking for £6,500 due to the OG Sprints (I have 5 in total) and the fact that she is so untouched inside and has the low mileage. Obviously if you didn't want the Sprints the price would be lowered.

You can email me on richmangan@btinternet.com or call me on 07732 194451.

Thanks
Rich

my advice, sell the sprints, get married in vegas ($30) and double it up as a honeymoon.  Keep the car and enjoy life.

Rich, don't do it! Mothball it, don't touch it for a few years til funds allow, but find a way to keep it. I should never have sold my race car - biggest mistake of my life! :(

Thanks Neil. I know what you mean but I just can't let her sit there while not using her as much as I'd like. I just don't have the time, cash or as much hunger as I used to for running a high spec car. 8)
